Chapter Sixteen: First Kill (2)
The horrible stench lingering in the air hadn't lessened in the slightest, making Twilight wrinkle his nose as he warily approached the sleeping creature.
100 yards. 50 yards. 20 yards.
At this distance, he took a deep breath, hoping to steady his wildly beating heart — only to frown as the air felt thick and toxic with the same unhealthy stench.
Just as he was about to move, his eyes glowed purple, and the whisper of the Sovereign System brushed against his ears.

[Target locked.]
[Revealing accessible information...]
[Name: Night-Wing
[Level: 8
[Tier: 0 (Monster)
[Life points: 8,100
[Cultivation Base: First Stage Magic Apostle]
[Basic Description: A bat-like creature known for its speed and poisonous slime.
[Advanced Description: A descendant of a Tier 6 Divine Immortal, the Night-Wing Autocrat, who was one of the loyal companions and followers of the Evil God.
[Lucky Information: A Night Wing's weakness is its spine. It loves to sleep, and once it falls into slumber, waking it is extremely difficult. Beware of its fury — when enraged, it enters a berserk state and will fight to the death with its attacker. A good trait of a night wing is also its high intelligence, making it capable of adapting to any situation.]
---
Twilight's eyes widened at the revelation.
Evil God!
A being who had once plunged the Astral Realm into utter terror — feared by all, even the gods.
However, here he was, gazing at the descendant of one that malevolent deity's companions.
Although Twilight knew that the night wing was just a "descendant", it was still a fact that it had the blood of an autocrat.
An autocrat!
Autocrats — titles bestowed upon Tier 6 magical beasts — were no laughing matter, especially those with the strength of a Divine Immortal.
Twilight gulped, eyeing the sleeping creature in a new light. It wasn't as powerful as its ancestor, but its blood still carried such a formidable lineage.
'Huh?' Twilight's jaw dropped as he realised his Omniscient God's Eye was still active.
In the past, whenever his innate ability activated on its own, it would quickly deactivate soon after, making him question whether it was truly passive.
But now... his Omniscient God's Eye hadn't deactivated — or rather, it hadn't completely faded. He was certain of this because words were still floating above the sleeping magical beast.

[Life points: 8,100 / 8,100]
---
Twilight gasped, fully grasping the significance of what he saw. If that life point hit zero, the magical beast would die for sure.
And with how difficult it was to wake, he had a slim but real chance to strike a fatal blow before it could react.
Seeing a glimmer of hope in the darkness of despair, he wasted no time. Activating a movement technique he had learned from Lillian, he dashed forward.
Silent Steps!
Using the intricate footwork of the technique, Twilight's speed surged, his steps turning near-silent.
Though his mastery wasn't perfect, it was more than sufficient for this battle.
As he closed the final distance, he leapt into the air, executing a flawless spin before landing squarely on the magical beast's back.
Without hesitation, he activated a martial technique.
Relentless Stab!
Twilight's shortsword shimmered with a faint blue glow. Gripping it with both hands, he drove it into the creature's spine — again and again.
With each strike, his speed surged, faster and faster, until his hands blurred into motion.
As he struck relentlessly, the life points above the creature's head dropped in waves.

The magical beast began to stir, disrupting Twilight's flawless rhythm and forcing his sword to a sudden halt.
Blood had already stained his shortsword crimson, and the wound he had inflicted was anything but minor.
"SCREEEEEECH!"
With a deafening cry, the once-motionless creature suddenly flapped its wings, launching itself into the air at remarkable speed — and sending Twilight crashing to the ground.
'Dammit!' He cursed inwardly, his gaze locking onto the life points hovering above the flying beast.
---
[Life Points: 1,500 / 8,100]
---
He had been so close — just one or two more strikes, and the creature would have been dead.
Twilight knew he had only gotten this far because of the beast's weakness — its spine — yet even then, it had taken countless strikes just to bring its life points down to 1,500.
To make matters worse, under his astonished gaze, the numbers began to climb. 1,500... 1,600... rising steadily in mere moments.
If he didn't finish it off in a single, decisive strike, he was doomed. Any damage he dealt would simply be recovered.
'Is this the recoverability of a magical beast at the Magic Apostle realm?' Twilight thought with a bittersweet smile on his face.
It was at this moment that the half open eyes of the night wing snapped open, gazing down at him with red, furious eyes.
"FOOLISH MORTAL! YOU DARE?!" The magical beast roared in human language as its mouth opened slightly, revealing a green orb which it spat at Twilight.
'Dammit!' Twilight cursed, swiftly pointing his blade at the incoming poisonous slime.
Winding Slash!
He unleashed a flurry of rapid slashes, cutting through the air and sending sharp winds surging outward.
The gusts clashed with the green orb, scattering poisonous slimes in every direction — yet not a single drop touched him as he stood at the centre.
Without giving the magical beast a chance to react, Twilight raised his right hand, activating one of his talent abilities.
Talent Ability: Abyssal Bind!
Pitch-black chains, exuding purple smoke, erupted from the ground, coiling around the floating creature and pulling it down onto the glistening marble floor.
