The River Under the Bed

Synopsis

The wells are dry, the earth is cracked three inches deep, and the Qiao clan controls every drop of water in the village. Luo Zhenshan has lived through this year once already: his father beaten at the well, his home looted, his family dead in the blizzard that followed. Now he is back at the beginning with a bandaged head and one secret nobody else knows — there is water under his house. Enough water, and enough fish, to make them rich while everyone else chews tree bark. But keeping a secret in a village of watching eyes is harder than digging for it.
