Chapter 5Pork Cutlets for the Captain

So, three quests of using the chef's eyes were completed. Serving dishes to everyone three times was completed. Completing a three-star dish was completed. There was only the last one left, which was to increase Captain Seok-ho's favorability to fifty percent.

By noon, while cutting grass, everybody was talking about the soup the kitchen had made today. Everyone thought it was because Dong-hoon had turned over a new leaf and wasn't the Kitchen Demon King anymore.

Until Dong-hoon showed up in front of everyone, greeted Lieutenant Ye-jin, and spoke up to ask whether it was possible to keep Song-dae in the dining hall. The master sergeant heard that and knew this guy was just trying to dodge work.

The lieutenant replied that she had already gone to see the captain once, and she wasn't sure whether Seok-ho would change his mind. Everyone knew that once Seok-ho gave his opinion, he could never take it back.

Dong-hoon then talked about today's soup. "Didn't everyone slurp it all clean? That was Song-dae's hard work right there."

When everybody heard that the soup had been made by Song-dae, they were all so shocked they couldn't even speak.

After the meeting with the lieutenant, Dong-hoon called Song-dae into the room to ask what the heck he had put into the bean sprouts. Song-dae honestly explained that he had just added water and chili to make the dish less salty and bring out the flavor.

The important thing Dong-hoon wanted to ask was this. Couldn't Song-dae stay here instead of moving to the surveillance department?

Song-dae seemingly froze for a bit at that question. With the system panel showing up in front of him, of course he wanted to. So Song-dae honestly admitted that he really wanted to work in the kitchen, and Dong-hoon knew that too. It was just that Captain Seok-ho wouldn't change his decision that easily.

Suddenly, the two of them came up with an idea. They would make some kind of dish for the captain to see.

So the two bros went to the chicken coop to find fresh eggs. For some reason, the huge jacked gym rat bro took one look at the chickens and got scared they would peck him. He had to let little bro Song-dae go inside to grab the eggs and bring them back for cooking.

The two of them planned to make pork cutlets, but to get fresh pork, they needed a certain person's help. That person was Ms. Yoon, an acquaintance of Dong-hoon's in the training camp. They only had to ask her in the morning, and by the afternoon the two of them instantly had an incredibly fresh slab of pork to make pork cutlets with.

Seeing Song-dae's performance over these past few days, Dong-hoon decided to let the little bro try it out once. The first time making it, it looked pretty nice, except the little bro put in a bit too much salt, which caused a problem with the dish. It turned out he had to use fine salt instead of coarse grains.

Song-dae rolled up his sleeves and made a new batch. Through countless steps of redoing it, Song-dae produced a pork cutlet that looked exactly like the pork chop off a good plate of broken rice. Both of them were confident this dish would make the captain change his mind about transferring Song-dae away.

While the captain was still taking selfies to post online, Song-dae's sudden appearance made him jump like he had just been caught doing something shady. But when he saw the dish Song-dae had brought up, the captain said he didn't like pork cutlets.

"Besides, just bringing this dish up here doesn't prove anything at all, and it can't change my decision."

Just like that, the kids sadly returned to the kitchen to break the news to the older bro.

The lieutenant got the news from the captain and came to call Song-dae out privately, asking him why he had cooked pork cutlets for the captain. Song-dae honestly said that while making that dish, only the words "I worked really hard today" had popped into his head. Cooking for everyone with all your heart is truly incredibly important, because the person eating will feel extremely happy. Song-dae was also very sad, because he would be transferred out of his position the next day.

The lieutenant, because of those words, went to see Seok-ho once again to ask why he couldn't change his decision. Just the fact that Song-dae had cooked a delicious soup for everyone and knew how to remove the smell from the rice — he truly deserved to run the kitchen.

The captain just slowly stood up and called out Lieutenant Ye-jin's full name.

"Have you forgotten the reason why you came back to this Kanglim Outpost?"

Ah. And just like that, Song-dae's chance to become a legendary super chef was over too. The countdown timer for the quest ran out. A cold sound ended Song-dae's journey right there.

Tonight, when Corporal Kim and the guys went on night watch, they came across a terrifying sight. Specifically, a soaking wet man approaching from the sea.

After bringing that man to the main meeting room, he made it clear that he thought this country of South Korea had nothing good about it. And just this cup of honey ginger tea would never shake my love for North Korea.

Hearing that, the lieutenant asked if he was really hungry. As a result, she ordered a whole spread of food, from Korean fried chicken to black bean noodles, to see whether this man would eat or not. With passionate patriotism for his Chairman, he complained.

"So this is how I'm treated in South Korea, huh?"

The captain heard that sentence and even thought the guy felt it wasn't enough.

While Song-dae was preparing to pack up and leave the dining hall, suddenly a phone call came into the kitchen reporting emergency news. It turned out the only thing the outpost could try now was the pork cutlet dish that Song-dae had just made.
