Chapter 5The Best Prison

He had replied that he had tried so hard and still couldn't do anything.

And the man had said, "Of course. You're only learning. Let's move on to the next one." To use it, he needed a different skill. The name of this skill was creation.

When he used this skill his entire body glowed with a bright light, and he pounced on them. Her jump wasn't just a way of moving through the sky. It was a skill that sent force into her legs. If he managed to channel that force correctly, then even in a confined space he could move freely.

Guda was surprised. Was he really using their skills better than Toida and Igarashi did?

Toida asked him not to mock her and shouted that he was still a weak-willed loser. He wouldn't surpass her. Let him just try to attack the girl, freak. She'd still bring him to her feet.

But before she could finish the sentence she suddenly found herself trapped in slime and began coughing. She couldn't get out and began to choke, not understanding what it was. She couldn't see or feel anything.

Akutagawa told her to relax. Apparently it was just slime, taking away her sight and her breath and her taste — all five senses. He had assigned this skill to her, and that was all. It had crawled past here, and he'd let go before she died, so she shouldn't be afraid of that. But he wouldn't have been able to attach it if she were stronger than him. This idiotic skill is only suitable for mockery.

She didn't know which way was up and which was down. Was she standing on the floor? What time was it? Had she been here long? It felt like an eternity. No. This is terrifying. She started screaming.

And Akutagawa said that when you lose all five senses, and your mind is wasted, your balance is lost, your body loses its balance, and the vomit stagnates in your throat. Space is incomprehensible. The best prison and the perfect stage. Right?

When Toida fell to the ground unconscious, he turned to Guda and said, "And now."

But Guda threw his magic ball at him and laughed. Akutagawa said, "The magic ball hits you right in the face, and then a hit. Could a baseball game be so dishonourable?"

Guda realized he'd outlasted even his skill so easily, swung again, and shouted loudly. But a moment later Akutagawa grabbed it and asked, "What the hell were you doing at school?" A ball's properties in the air differ from those when it's held in the hand. The same thing happens with a magic ball. So he just hits you in the face with the magic ball, and it doesn't fly. But maybe he's simply inherently weaker.

Guda got angry and asked, "Why are you better than us?" He had unlocked his power for the first time today. And even if he'd adopted their skills, but— Before he could finish, Akutagawa asked again, "Isn't it obvious?" This wasn't the first time. Again and again, he had been imagining how he would use his power, plotting the scenarios.

At that moment he rushed forward and shouted, "Jump. Storm. Mana. Magic ball expended."

Guda screamed that he was a powerless insect. How could a guy like that even say anything about him? But Akutagawa shouted that he could do better, and swung at him with his own ball. A moment later he hit him in the stomach so hard that Guda lost the power of speech and fell to the ground, screaming loudly in pain.

He'd never bothered to learn how to control his powers, because he'd been born with them. That was the cause of his defeat. If only he could use his brain, that would be great.

Sometime later Akutagawa woke up in his bed and asked, "Was that a dream?"

It seemed not. This was reality. Of course it was. But he felt strange.
