Chapter 2A Kitchen Full of Maids

The Paulessian Royal Academy for Higher Learning is located in the capital of the Kingdom of Theolis. The noble children of the kingdom are required to attend this academy for three years as soon as they turn fifteen.

Luciana was also accepted for enrollment, and had planned on relocating to the royal capital with her parents. However, due to circumstances beyond her control, she ended up going alone. There was only one elderly maid as a servant, and even she quit.

Lucy told herself she would be fine. She took care of herself. Even back in her home territory she had done her best, but her days felt empty. She coughed, felt sick, but kept telling herself she was fine and could keep going.

She objected at first to the idea of letting Melody handle all-works on her own, but she was at a loss. Then she heard that Melody actually wanted to do it. She did not understand how Melody could be so happy about it.

First things first, Melody cast a spell — a whole magical-girl transformation. She thought about how this was the dream she had dreamed of long before, since she was reborn.

Melody was a reincarnated being who had come to this world due to a certain incident. Before that, she was Ritsuko Mizunami. Back then, she saw everything as monochrome and believed that to be the world's true nature. She became an expert across multiple fields by age six. As a result, she lost interest in the entire world.

But then one day, she asked who the pretty lady was that served them. The organizers there had brought this woman all the way from the UK, and this was the color in Ritsuko's world.

Ritsuko began searching on the internet about maids. The concept of them had flourished particularly in the latter half of the nineteenth century. She began practicing as a maid at home, and her parents were glad she was having so much fun. She eventually grew into a full-fledged maid junkie with an extraordinary capacity for learning. She mastered every skill associated with being a maid, and pursued her academic studies.

She one day told her parents she was going to study in the UK to become a maid. But fate was unfortunate for her, on her plane ride there.

When she saw a maid again, as Celeste, all the memories came flooding back in. She came up with the name Melody Wave, using Ritsu from her given name, which means melody, and nami from her family name, which means wave.

And now she was a full-fledged maid for Luciana. This maid outfit also had protective magic, sturdier than most armor.

The top priority was to do maintenance on the mansion. She cast the spell Alter Ego and shadow-cloned herself to clean the whole place. Then she chanted, "O body, be not seen — Transparenza. Grant me wings of flight — Ali d'Angelo." With this, her body became translucent and she sprouted wings from her back, taking to the skies.

Because the city market was so expensive, she went into a forest to gather wild plants, mushrooms, nuts and herbs. With only meat left to get, she caught sight of a bird in the sky. It immediately unleashed lightning on her, but Melody's maid armor protected her. Striking back, she shot the bird with a magic bullet, killing it in one hit.

After collecting the meat, she opened a spatial door that led her back to the mansion.

Walking through the hall, Lucy worried whether Melody was doing okay handling the cleaning all on her own, but she could see that everywhere was really sparkling. Melody showed up behind her, telling Lucy that most of the cleaning was finished over there, so she was free to proceed.

Shortly after, Melody showed up again in front of Lucy, saying she was done cleaning the washroom. Lucy was startled and quite confused. Then she decided to go help with dinner. Entering the kitchen, she was stunned to see three Melodys there. As if that were not enough, a whole lot more showed up behind her. Lucy's brain basically gave up on trying to understand what was going on.

Later, when she was served, Lucy was thrilled at how delicious the meal was. The compliments left Melody feeling very proud of herself. The herb-roasted chicken served as the main dish was just amazing. It had been a while since Lucy had had actual meat.

Melody told her she had found the poultry in a nearby forest. It was a very lush place, so it had helped a lot. Lucy had no idea there was a forest like that around here. She only knew of the Great Vanagandr Woods, a blightland. It was a very dangerous place, so she warned Melody never to enter it.

Once again, Lucy thanked her for the day, and said she was so happy to have Melody.

Meanwhile, the king of the kingdom, Garner von Theolis, received word about an intruder in the Great Vanagandr Woods. He was informed by Sven, an archmage of the kingdom. The world's largest blightland, the Great Vanagandr Woods is full of monsters — beasts possessing mana that can only be damaged with magic. It is known as the most dangerous area, and entry is strictly forbidden. Sven told the kingdom that the intruder was most likely still there, since there had been no sign of anyone coming out after the barrier detected an entry into the forest.

That was because Melody had used teleportation to get out. Little did the king know that this intruder was just the strongest maid.

Back at the mansion, Lucy told Melody that she wanted to invite her friends over for a tea party. Beatrice and Millaria were Lucy's childhood friends. Their estates were right next to hers. The land had originally been sold off by the previous count in her family after their business failed. So her friends' families were actually their benefactors, for buying it.

Lucy had invited them once before, but having a tea party at a haunted mansion had not exactly been the best experience. However, Lucy thought things would be fine now. Melody had styled her hair for her and had even prepared this lovely dress, so Lucy was eager to invite her friends.

Melody agreed, suggesting they have the tea party a week from now. Filled with excitement, Lucy clung to her with gratitude. Melody warned that she must not cling to her maid, but Lucy pointed out that though she was saying no, her body was saying yes.

Melody figured they needed to do some training before the tea party. That way, Lucy could learn how to be a proper lady.

At that moment, Lucy realized she had opened a box that she should not have. Too late for her to run.
