Chapter 1Slippers at the Door

One ordinary day, Yunshu woke up in a large hospital and realized almost immediately that he was no longer in his own world. When he tried to make a phone call, a nurse informed him that the number he was dialing was invalid.

Jang Yunshu had been a renowned oncologist, a gold-medal-winning doctor. After working eighteen consecutive hours without rest, he had suddenly died. Yet when he opened his eyes again, he discovered that he was still alive. Only now he was inside the body of an alpha named Jang Yunsu. Coincidentally, the two of them shared almost the same name, and they looked remarkably alike.

The doctor was Jang Yunshu. The original owner of this body was, in his opinion, a complete scumbag. The two of them existed in entirely different worlds. The original owner had been declared brain dead after a car accident. To avoid being labeled insane if anyone discovered he came from another world, Yunshu pretended to have amnesia. His doctor was shocked, because the brain scans showed no abnormalities at all beyond the memory loss.

After being discharged from the hospital, he was given the basic information about his life, including his home address. Upon arriving at a luxurious residence, he realized that the previous owner of the body had been wealthy. As he entered the property, he returned a security guard's greeting. The guard was stunned. It was the first time in three years that Mr. Jang had actually responded to him.

When he reached the house, he was greeted by a small, handsome young man. The frightened young man immediately knelt down to put slippers on his feet, but Yunshu stopped him, confused by such unnecessary behavior.

Inside the house, Yunshu explained that he had amnesia and wanted to know the young man's name and what kind of relationship they had. Judging by his appearance, he doubted the young man was a housekeeper, and he sincerely hoped the previous owner had not hired child labor.

The young man introduced himself as Baitang, and revealed that he was Yunshu's omega. Baitang then explained the basics of this world — the alphas, the betas, the omegas, including the fact that men could become pregnant here. Yunshu was shocked by the revelation, but he relaxed when he learned that Baitang was actually a twenty-one-year-old adult.

Seeing how pale and frail Baitang looked, Yunshu asked about his medical history, worried that he might be ill. Baitang became visibly nervous and quickly denied being sick, insisting instead that he was clean. The response struck Yunshu as strange, because Baitang seemed more concerned with proving his cleanliness than with denying illness.

Drawn by the smell of food from the kitchen, Yunshu offered to help cook, but Baitang refused and urged him to rest. The omega's overly polite and cautious behavior made Yunshu assume that their marriage lacked any emotional connection. Strangely enough, that relieved him. It meant he would not have to pretend to be in love.

When he entered the bedroom, he found shelves filled with trophies and awards belonging to the previous owner, along with closets full of expensive clothes. What caught his attention most, however, was an entire cabinet filled with various dangerous items.

Baitang soon arrived to announce that dinner was ready. When he noticed Yunshu examining the cabinet, he became visibly anxious.

The dining table was covered with fried and greasy foods that made Yunshu uncomfortable. To his surprise, Baitang had prepared a separate small table on the floor for himself, instead of eating together with him. The omega also refused to eat meat, surviving almost entirely on boiled vegetables. Yunshu assumed Baitang might simply be a vegetarian and decided not to press the issue.

As a doctor, he immediately noticed that the food contained an excessive amount of salt — enough to cause serious health problems over time. Still, because Baitang had clearly worked hard preparing the meal, Yunshu chose not to complain, and ate everything.

After dinner, Yunshu intended to wash the dishes, since Baitang had cooked. Baitang refused his help and insisted that he rest. He had already prepared a bath for him.

While bathing, Yunshu observed that the original owner's body was physically impressive and well built. In contrast, Baitang looked alarmingly thin, almost childlike, with fragile legs. The more Yunshu interacted with him, the more convinced he became that the original owner had treated Baitang terribly.

That night, after his bath, Yunshu returned to the bedroom and discovered that Baitang had prepared a small bed on the floor for himself. Despite their poor relationship, Yunshu refused to let his spouse sleep there. Baitang already looked unhealthy enough, and he could easily become ill. Taking him gently by the arm, Yunshu insisted that Baitang sleep in the bed while he spent the night on the sofa.

Baitang strongly objected, but Yunshu explained that he was not used to sharing a bed with others and urged him to sleep comfortably. Fortunately, the sofa was large enough. The next morning, Yunshu planned to prepare the guest room so Baitang could rest there in the future.

He eventually fell asleep on the sofa, only to be awakened by small hands touching his legs. It was Baitang. The omega had come to spend the night with him. Startled, Yunshu immediately sat up and moved away. Then he remembered that in this world Baitang was his omega, and that such behavior was considered normal between married couples. To avoid the situation, he calmly apologized and explained that he had only recently left the hospital and wasn't feeling up to anything. He suggested that Baitang return to the bedroom and get some rest.

Only then did Baitang thank him and hurry back to the room, without looking back.

The following morning, Yunshu woke up with dark circles under his eyes, having barely slept after the unexpected encounter. After freshening up, he went to the kitchen for a glass of water. Hearing footsteps, he realized Baitang was awake.

Still sleepy, Baitang looked peaceful and beautiful. However, the moment he saw Yunshu in the kitchen, he panicked. He could not believe the alpha was trying to cook, and he immediately pushed him away from the stove and insisted that he rest in the living room instead. Before leaving, Yunshu suggested that he use less salt in the food.

Even after the recommendation, breakfast remained extremely salty. Confused, Baitang could not understand why Yunshu suddenly disliked salty food. The old Yunsu had always preferred heavily seasoned meals. Now he was talking about healthy eating and warning that excessive salt was bad for the body.

Later, Yunshu began cleaning the guest room. Baitang repeatedly tried to do the work himself, but Yunshu refused, saying the dust would be bad for him.

Meanwhile, Baitang could not stop questioning the alpha's strange behavior. Was all of this some kind of test? What would happen if he made a mistake?
