Chapter 15Three Days of Rebuilding

He needed to focus and use the basics of the nanomachines. He rushed towards the monster, considering how to strip away its body weight by controlling gravity, and how to create a wind current by controlling pressure. He could definitely do that.

Leaping upward, he saw one of the monsters tearing apart a knight who was screaming in horror. At that moment Cedo directed a fireball at the creature, and it melted where it stood.

Several young voices shouted that they would cover him. It turned out they were students from the Harness Academy. Cedo thanked them for their help and their courage. Another of them said they could not sit idly by while the capital was in danger. They had no choice but to fight — and then they found themselves surrounded by several monsters. At that moment Cedo came to the rescue, smashed the creatures with a few light swings and moved on.

The students did not understand what that had been, or who he was. Could that really be the lesser being from the lower ranks?

Cedo judged that the creature still needed time to regenerate, so he would close the distance first. The monster began to roar loudly with rage and tried to form two beams of light to strike him, but he dodged both blows and realized that apart from that attack it was not so dangerous.

And so he went on, thinking that it was time to end this before it used that move again. He had to act faster. Faster still.

When he reached the monster he leapt back with a sharp movement and struck it from the other side of the roof, so that it became confused and no longer knew what was happening.

All the guild's men watched in amazement, frozen in horror. They were incredibly surprised by Cedo's abilities as he went on fighting, destroying the monster from several sides at once with a few moves, chopping it into pieces. When he had done so he rose into the air, turned the monster towards him and shouted that with this blow he would finally finish the creature off.

He directed all his power straight at the monster's head, and moments later a bright flash of light erupted there. It lasted only an instant, and even the guild leader ran outside to watch more closely. Harden asked what was happening.

Cedo landed not far from the monster, and everyone realized that this man was amazing. But who on earth was he?

Three days after the whole city had been destroyed and ravaged, people took to the streets to help rebuild it. Cedo watched from the window and reflected on how, despite all the chaos, there had been almost no serious casualties. The knights had done a truly excellent job.

He sat up in bed and exhaled with relief, still thinking about how, with so many knights taken up with defending the city and holding back that giant monster, order had nevertheless been restored so quickly after the massacre.

The academy had also been reopened for the investigation, and Lord Ledman, believed to be the ringleader, had been captured. He was in handcuffs, and the teacher and even the director, suspected of involvement, had also been detained. They were currently being interrogated at the royal castle, so the academy would be closed for now — even though he had only been on the job for a single day.

Still, this mess had given him more work. He coped easily when all the enemies were in one place. But when they were scattered like this, he could not crush them all in one fell swoop. To protect everyone, he needed to become even stronger. He picked up the cube and, examining it carefully, knew that he would do anything for that.

At that moment someone knocked on his door, and he asked who it was.

When he opened it he saw a beautiful girl in an incredibly beautiful dress, who bowed and announced that she had come for him.

Cedo replied that he thought the academy was temporarily closed.

Lismeria said that her brother had asked her to invite him over. He wanted to thank him for his help. He also said there was something else he wanted to discuss with him.

"Did you come all this way just to call me?" Cedo asked.

Of course she did, Lismeria confirmed. It would be extremely impolite to send a common servant for a man of his standing. Therefore she, on behalf of the Wilton family, had come in person.

Cedo looked at her silently and then remarked that she was no longer calling him a lesser being.

Lismeria replied that she had reconsidered her behaviour and realized that you cannot judge people by their appearance, and that you should show respect to everyone, no matter who they are. So from now on she would like to remain under his guidance and heed his lessons.

Hakama, who had been watching the whole scene, spoke up. Cedo saw her and called her by name. Hakama said the dormitory was boring, so she had come here to unwind.

Lismeria turned around and muttered, "What's she doing here? That country bumpkin. Some country girl dares to show up here uninvited. Why is she so shameless?"

"You just said you'd realized everything," Cedo replied. "So what's the problem?"

Some time later, at the Wilton estate, Lismeria entered the hall with Cedo and Hakama, and all the servants lined up to greet them. "Welcome home, mistress."

The lord of the house had asked the maid Poval and little Nino to escort the two of them, and they replied that they were following orders.

Cedo remarked that it seemed they were already settling in.

Nino said it was all thanks to the people here, and Cedo asked whether they had been harmed during the incident.

Poval replied not at all. Everyone had been protecting them.

So he really is taking good care of them, Cedo thought. And at that moment Poval mentioned that people were saying he too had accomplished something incredible. "Lord Jin Cedo."

He asked who they had heard that from.

She replied that it was from Lady Lismeria and Sir Argus.

Lismeria let it slip that as his faithful disciple she was simply obliged to sing his praises.

"What does disciple mean?" he asked.

Lismeria replied that since they were all of one house with her teacher now, they should follow his example in everything.

The children replied that they obeyed her, and Nino whispered that Lady Lismeria used to be very strict with them, but now she was very sweet.

Cedo replied that it was obvious. This was what he understood by the power of transformation.

After some time they came to the right door, and the maid apologized. "Master Jin has arrived."

She knocked, and Argus, who was inside, allowed them in. When Cedo entered, Harden was there as well, giving him a rough look. Cedo silently looked around, and Argus thanked him for coming. Now he could sit down. They apologized for calling him so suddenly, and Cedo said it was nothing. He was free anyway.

Argus decided first to introduce their guest, the head of the capital's guild, Lord Harden.

Harden rose from his seat and shook Cedo's hand, saying that it was an honour to meet him. His name was Harden, and he hoped they would get along. And frankly, if he had not stopped that monster, this kingdom would surely have faced a national crisis. First of all, let him thank him for saving the kingdom.

And Cedo replied that he had merely finished off that large creature.
