Chapter 8The Pen in the Corner

While he was still confused about all of it, the mysterious man showed up again. Seeing that there was someone in the room, he immediately ran away. Dong-gu slowly walked over to check, but he didn't notice a spy pen camera lying in the corner.

The next day, Ha-neul felt like she had been making a mountain out of a molehill. So she went to see Dong-gu feeling sorry. She honestly admitted that she had been jealous, because she had feelings for him. Hearing about their old sneaky link and watching the two of them hold hands had made her really annoyed. This feeling of jealousy wasn't pleasant at all.

But Dong-gu replied with a line so sweet it caught her off guard. "I like you. I'm so lucky to have you. That's why I can stay strong. You're like a special cure, always lifting up my broken heart."

When she was about to leave, Kyung-min showed up. As soon as Ha-neul saw him, she acted unnaturally and hurried away.

Kyung-min had come to apologize to Dong-gu for his words the last time. But Dong-gu felt he'd had a point anyway, so he didn't hold a grudge.

Later, Ha-neul went up to the rooftop to look for Dong-gu, right when the wind blew the door of his room open a little. She noticed that the window hadn't been closed and that documents were scattered everywhere. While she was cleaning them up, she accidentally found the spy pen camera in its hidden corner.

At the exact same time, Dong-gu was walking down the street and noticed someone tailing him. After a dramatic chase, thanks to knowing the area well, he managed to block the mysterious man's path. Seeing a spy pen camera drop from the man's body, Dong-gu lost control and charged at him to confront him.

And who would have thought? The man grabbed a wine bottle lying nearby, smashed it straight into Dong-gu's head, and ran away.

Dong-gu almost broke down. He went to the police station to report it. But the cameras in those hidden corners were, as always, conveniently broken, so the police couldn't track anything.

Ha-neul, who had found the pen, also hurried over to find him. When she saw the pile of spy pen cameras sitting on the police desk, she was stunned. Only then did she realize what kind of terrifying pressure Dong-gu had been living under. Sadly, the pen Ha-neul brought was broken and water damaged, so the data couldn't be recovered.

Leaving the station, Ha-neul finally noticed the wound on Dong-gu's head. She felt heartbroken and dragged him straight to the hospital. Even though the wound wasn't too serious, seeing Ha-neul sobbing loudly made Dong-gu totally panic.

Before, she had just thought he was unlucky. Only now did she know that he had been maliciously framed by people like that.

After calming down, she asked if he suspected anyone. Dong-gu confessed that the anesthesiologist was very suspicious, but he didn't know what his motive would be. Ha-neul wholeheartedly cheered him on, and the two of them promised that when everything was over, they would go to the movies together. She wanted to sit next to the person she loved and eat popcorn. Dong-gu looked at her with totally loving eyes.

In a flash, the day of Dong-gu's third trial arrived.

At home, Ha-neul's mother was busy looking for the iron so she could press some clothes. She started suspecting that her precious younger son was the culprit who had hidden it, because this boy had a criminal record of selling the family's air fryer to get money for a date with his girlfriend.

Who would have thought the real culprit was Ha-neul? She had taken the iron over to Dong-gu, because she saw that his dress shirt was a bit wrinkled.

At the same time, Ha-neul's mother also wondered why the side dishes she had made last night had suddenly grown wings and flown away. It turned out they were all sitting right there on Dong-gu's dining table.

Ha-neul told Dong-gu to call her after he ate, so they could go to the court together. Seeing him refuse, she started a game of rock, paper, scissors. His mouth said he didn't want to, but his hand was very honest and threw a move anyway.

Getting home, Ha-neul caught the scene of her younger brother being interrogated by their mother. Knowing the real reason behind it, she started feeling guilty. The younger brother immediately suspected his sister had done it, but their mother spoke up to defend her.

"Your sister was a national top student and she even has a medical degree. There's no way she'd steal those petty things."

However, the younger brother dropped a bold statement. "For love, there's nothing she wouldn't dare to do."

That hit Ha-neul right in her weak spot, and she just awkwardly walked away.

While standing downstairs waiting for Ha-neul, Dong-gu was still trying to call the anesthesiologist. Suddenly, he noticed something.

By the time Ha-neul came downstairs, he had disappeared. Only his phone was left lying all alone on the ground. Ha-neul panicked and ran to the courthouse, but she still didn't see Dong-gu anywhere.

The trial had been going on for thirty minutes and the main person still hadn't shown up. Just as the lawyer was about to ask for a postponement, Dong-gu appeared, carrying a crucial piece of evidence.

It turned out that while he was waiting for Ha-neul, he had accidentally spotted Jin-seok, the anesthesiologist. Seeing him, Jin-seok immediately ran. During the chase, Dong-gu dropped his phone, but he still decided to chase him to the very end. Luckily, a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction blocked Jin-seok's way.

Dong-gu grabbed him to question him, and the man pulled out a USB drive.

Inside the USB drive was all of the video footage from the operating room. Before the surgery, two men in black had snuck in to swap the medicine, and had purposely left Dong-gu's fingerprints behind to frame him. After that, a bribed nurse had used secret signals to pick out the exact swapped medicine to inject into the patient.

The truth was finally exposed. Dong-gu was declared innocent, and the patient's family member, who was also the mastermind, was caught red-handed.

Jin-seok wasn't an accomplice. He was a witness. Because he had once been turned into a scapegoat for another professor's mistake, he always secretly recorded video to protect himself. After Dong-gu's incident, he had been hanging around him all that time trying to find a chance to hand over the evidence, but he was scared of getting revenge from the mob. He had even once snuck into Dong-gu's place to leave the evidence there, but as they say, man proposes and God disposes. It took forever for the truth to reach Dong-gu's hands.

Even though his name was cleared, Dong-gu couldn't be happy.
