Three Gold Bars for a Bag of Snacks

Synopsis

Chen Yang walks out of his office with a cardboard box and no income, and finds a plain heavy ring packed in with a case of discount snacks. It drops him into a scorched wasteland two hundred years after the bombs fell, where gold is junk nobody wants and a red foil packet is worth more than a strongroom. A girl with a rifle offers to guide him through it for fifteen packs a month, and she is not joking about the price. All he has to do is keep the food coming — and stop anyone asking where a man with no receipts gets a duffel bag of bullion.
