Chapter 6Three Sentences Left

Honestly, think back to when he was awkwardly stuck at that table earlier. It was Anne orchestrating this the entire time. How did nobody connect those dots sooner? One plus one is two. It was always her.

Anyway, back to the blood.

Anne is screaming his name, and Celia demands to know why.

He is on the floor, violently spitting blood. He suddenly remembers the other maid opening the door earlier, telling him he could just leave. He considered running away, but he realized he never could. So he weakly calls out to Anne, asking what she thinks she is actually doing.

Anne yells at the useless fool to stop getting in her way. But Celia walks right past him and slashes her neck, incredibly deep.

The assassin drops straight to her knees. The ice princess coldly declares that it is over.

Now our boy is bleeding on the floor, barely clinging to life. Celia kneels down beside him. She realizes that if he jumped in to protect her, these clearly were not his own hired assassins. And what really shakes her up is how he protected her without thinking. Because if she had actually died today, nobody would ever have known his secret.

But he coughs, saying that none of that matters anymore. Just like she said, he chose to act like a true man.

Man, that line really hurts.

But of course, this is Celia here. She coldly states that judging by his fading pulse, he has enough strength for maybe three more sentences, so he had better make them actually count. She will pass his final message along to the Duke.

He reaches up, gently touches her face, and truthfully says that he is actually sorry. Turns out he really did care for her in the end.

Then his arm drops to the floor. The man goes out like a legend. We all know he is not really dying here, but if he did, it would be an epic finish.

Still, Celia is not having it at all. She yells that the bastard does not get to die after apologizing like that. Not after everything he pulled. She shouts his name and tells him flat out that she is rejecting his cursed apology. He is going to stay alive and pay for every single thing he broke.

Right in the middle of the dark void, Moon is floating.

He feels completely dizzy and flushed with fever. Unfortunately for him, even though he really tried making the right choices, death was just inevitable. But hey, at least this beat strictly following the original story line. This way he actually got to dictate how his own life ended.

But suddenly, strange black energy sparks right beside him. A system panel forms, showing his exact progress in arrogance, envy, greed, shamelessness, and pure laziness. Looks like this is all about the seven deadly sins. He sits at minus ninety percent overall, with gluttony at ninety-nine, envy on the board, and fifty in arrogance.

A few pages in the dark book flip right over. The system tells him to just keep trying for now.

He demands to know why the stupid book did not show up before he died.

Then he hears a faint meow coming from the pages.

The scene completely shifts over to the sewers. Ashes drift through the dark underground. Someone is quietly murmuring that Campbell was never the real target here.

But suddenly a deep voice asks what she thinks she did to his son.

Oh boy. The father steps from the shadows, radiating pure Lionheart aura. The assassin instantly starts shaking in terror.

The dad calmly states that he definitely was not expecting random visitors inside his own house. She was never invited. So what is she doing here? She had better speak up right now. What did she do to his boy?

Man, the father is usually nice, but right now he is a total beast. Thinking back, our protagonist must have been thrilled that he managed to grind some serious aura right before dying.

Or actually, maybe not, because now we cut straight back to the bedroom.

Anne is sitting right next to him. That exact same Anne who we now know is entirely dangerous.

He wakes up and she is hovering right there, asking if the young master is feeling any better today. She asks if he needs a doctor.

As he tries pushing himself up, mumbling that he wants to use the bathroom, a sharp pain in his chest hits extremely hard. He collapses right back down into the soft sheets. He apologizes, muttering that his legs feel strangely weak.

But right now he needs to be incredibly careful. He cannot afford to act kind around her. She is absolutely not to be trusted.

She casually mentions that his fiancée asked her to take personal care of him, so he had better know she will be staying very close for the time being.

Then she offers to help him bathe. She immediately starts reaching for his clothes.

He quickly tells her to calm down, stammering that he just now started feeling a bit better. She says fine, she will let him be independent. But she still picks him up and carries him to the bathroom. He orders her to get out, saying he has private stuff to take care of.

A little while later, we cut back into the main room. Anne tells him he was passed out for three whole days. It was actually Princess Celia herself who ordered her to look after him. He barely survived. He lost a massive amount of blood and went without oxygen for way too long. He got really lucky that Celia managed to use some magic to keep him breathing.

Hearing this, he realizes the princess probably did not mention a single word about the whole potion incident.

But then Anne adds that the princess did mention something pretty important. What she actually reveals, though, is that they completely uncovered the whole assassination plot. His father personally captured one of the attackers and tortured the harsh truth out of the guy.

The big problem right now is that they still have to somehow apologize to the king. His royal daughter was put in serious danger right inside their own estate.

But the weirdest part is that Moon received zero punishment. Apparently Princess Celia said something to the king in secret. Something that led to him being entirely forgiven.
