Chapter 9A Griffin at the Gate

That is fine, though. From this exact moment on, he is demanding personal training from his dad. You would expect his dad to shut that down immediately.

But suddenly Anne knocks on the door, saying the master is looking for him. He steps out with her, calling it perfect timing, since he was just about to request the exact same thing.

Outside, he runs straight into two more maids. One wears glasses, and honestly, she might be the very first skinny girl in this entire story. Moon notices they are calling Anne the head maid now, so he throws her a compliment. Guess she got a solid promotion.

She explains that the previous head maid actually resigned right after he woke up, so she ended up taking over the top spot. He gets this feeling the woman might have been pushed out because of him, which is pretty confusing, but Anne tells him not to stress about it. Even though she is not head maid anymore, she is still part of the household.

And that is exactly when his mother swoops in with an extremely peculiar hug. She hugs him tight, demanding he call her mommy a thousand times. Then she presses his head right against her stomach, telling him to just listen.

Turns out, yep, she is completely pregnant. He is officially getting a little sibling.

Right at that moment the father walks in, telling her to take it easy. The kid just got out of bed from recovering, so maybe dial down the excitement.

A bit later, Moon is genuinely shocked to hear his dad is heading straight back to the front lines. Also, check out the maid standing right next to his father. She is absolutely massive. Clearly the Duke handled hiring all these women, and you can tell exactly what kind of taste this guy has. Very refined.

He announces that this afternoon he is returning to the warfront. He will be gone for at least a month. During that time, Moon needs to stay put in the capital. He turns to Miss Fay, saying he is counting on her to watch over everyone.

Moon, however, tells him he should not go. There are plenty of other generals in the Empire, and besides, he is a duke.

But his father explains that unfortunately, after nearly a full decade of total peace, things have suddenly gotten urgent. They are seeing signs of abyssal demons near the borders.

But Moon knows exactly what this actually is. Just a massive distraction to divide the human forces. The real invasion does not kick off until three years from now, when Ariel finally rises up as the savior.

The real problem is that even though his dad said a month, he will likely be gone for three whole years. That means Moon's master plan to learn swordsmanship from him is completely wrecked.

A giant griffin and carriage arrive. His father waves goodbye, telling his wife not to cry. He will be back soon.

He calls Moon over, saying he was seriously impressed when he risked his own life to protect the princess. That was the raw courage of a true knight. The kind of deep bravery that runs strictly in Campbell blood.

It reminds him of their family symbol. The sword represents raw strength, and they are the sharp blade of the empire. The dragon symbolizes the terrible enemy they must defeat. In other words, they are the main weapon of the entire realm.

At some point, every man in this family has to step onto the battlefield. He is not totally sure if Moon will follow that exact path, but that does not matter right now. What matters is that he has become a real man. And because of that, his father promises to invest every single resource he never had in his own youth, just so Moon can grow even stronger.

Moon just stands there totally silent for a moment.

Then his father gets dead serious. Time to talk about something heavy. He wants to know what Moon really thinks about Anne.

Completely caught off guard, Moon tells him she is nice. But why even bring that up?

His father explains that he has watched that girl grow up. She comes from a solid family. She is smart. And most importantly, she definitely sees him as way more than just her master. If Moon does not want to lose her, he had better make a move soon.

Now Moon stands there completely thrown off. What is his father even talking about?

The Duke decides to be perfectly blunt. The family needs more heirs. His wife is only just now having her second child, and with him heading back to the front lines, there will not be time to make more.

Moon nervously points out that he is technically engaged to Celia. His father brushes that right off, calling it purely political. Even if they do get married eventually, Celia becomes the main wife and Anne can be the secondary one.

Then his dad gets dead serious again. He drops the final verdict. In three years, when he returns, Moon had better have a kid waiting. That is the whole plan.

What kind of ruthless dad just throws Anne in like that? Absolutely brutal. That is a massive red flag.

But anyway, the very second the Duke leaves the room, Anne steps right inside, saying she definitely heard her name. She asks if he needs anything at all from her right now.

Naturally, you would expect him to dodge the whole thing, but nope. He gets straight to the point. They need to have a kid together, because that is exactly what his dad just ordered. But he totally thinks it is a joke, so she does not need to stress about it. Her only real job is to stay on as a maid, and in the future they will just go their separate ways.

Then, completely out of nowhere, he tells her she is the absolute perfect woman. And he is totally sure she will find an amazing guy someday. If she ever meets someone special, she just has to tell him in person. He will happily give his blessing for her to leave.

And then, with all the confidence in the world, he puts a hand on her shoulder, telling her to be brave and go find true happiness.

Meanwhile he walks off feeling absolutely fantastic, convinced he just pulled off the perfect smooth move. Is he actually into her, though? It definitely feels like it.

But exactly as we expected, that did not sit right with her at all. She is literally shaking with pure rage, whispering through clenched teeth that he really has changed so much.

She cannot wait any longer. It is going to have to happen tonight.
