Chapter 6Inside the Beast Lair

Outside the Horn Demon Beast Lair, a massive magic portal shaped like a monster's head yawned open. As Lin Fang approached, a guard stopped him, asking, "Student, where's your team?"

Lin Fang calmly replied, "I'm going alone."

The guard was stunned. "A level five dungeon, solo? That's way too dangerous. You should go find a team and come back."

Lin Fang just held up his mission scroll, confirming the rules allowed him to enter alone. The two guards exchanged a look.

One whispered, "He must be after the demon bear gallbladder for the solo clear bonus."

The other scoffed, "He's got guts."

"Sure, but does he have the skills to back it up?"

Seeing his determination, one of the guards just sighed and said, "Well, good luck to you."

Inside the Horn Demon Beast Lair he found a sprawling network of caves littered with countless bizarre monster eggs. Lin Fang strolled in casually, his confident demeanour radiating a powerful aura all around him.

He came face to face with two lizard monsters. Level three and four mobs — to him, now at level six, they were hardly even a threat any more. One hit was all it took to wipe them both out. The guide mentioned a lot of monsters, he thought, but this is just ridiculous.

Then he entered a larger cavern and stopped, a spark of interest igniting in his eyes. This was the perfect chance to test his new summoning method. He raised his hand, channelling dark magic, and yelled, "Skill activate. Summon undead."

From the corpses of the monsters he'd just killed, an entire army of undead lizards rose, glowing with an eerie blue light and lining up before him.

Lin Fang pointed forward, commanding his new army. "My children, charge for me."

A quick system explanation followed. Monster-type undead retained some of their living traits. They had high attack power but low intelligence, only able to follow simple commands.

Watching his army go, Lin Fang noted with satisfaction that the mana consumption was surprisingly low. He even wondered if, besides fighting, they could be used for chores like fetching water.

Meanwhile his two high-level undead servants were showcasing their own overwhelming power. He Sha, a berserker, charged in and tore the monsters apart with raw power, while Yu Ya took a more refined, magical approach. He trapped swarms of monsters inside water orbs, completely neutralising their attacks.

Watching his undead servants, Lin Fang was deeply satisfied. Humanoid undead had higher intelligence, could use their old skills, and fought with much more flexibility. From now on they could handle all the weeding and fertilising on his farm.

With such overwhelming power, his undead army simply swept through the entire cave system. A notification window popped up. Level up to seven.

Standing amid his powerful army, Lin Fang calmly noted, "Not bad efficiency."

He pushed deeper into the dungeon, reaching the boss room in just half an hour. From inside, a mighty roar echoed as a giant horned demon bear struggled violently.

Lin Fang gave a challenging smirk. "The boss. A time to test our combined strength. Everyone out."

His entire undead army, led by Yu Ya and He Sha, materialised right behind him. Lin Fang commanded with authority, "He Sha, engage it head-on. Yu Ya, weaken it with curses. The rest of you harass it. Aim for the joints and eyes."

Instantly the army coordinated a systematic and effective assault on the boss. Commanding from the rear, Lin Fang casually popped a mana recovery pill. Their coordination, he thought, was getting much better.

He Sha faced the demon bear directly, his power as a berserker undead completely overwhelming it. He unleashed a final, devastating blow of dark magic. A massive explosion of purple energy consumed the boss.

And another notification popped up. Level up to eight.

With the boss defeated, a huge pile of loot dropped onto the ground. Lin Fang looked over the scattered loot bags, picking up a bright red teardrop-shaped item. He scoffed. "It only increases stamina by ten points. Completely useless. I get better stat boosts than that from one of my super crops."

Suddenly a system notification popped up that caught him off guard. Calculating dungeon rewards. Confirming current class: Necromancer Farmer. Distributing corresponding rewards.

Two sets of rewards for clearing one dungeon. He realised it must be because of his unique dual class. Staring at the two glowing chests, Lin Fang rubbed his chin with a smug grin. If clearing a dungeon gives double rewards, he mused, then does that mean there's a way to exploit this with my crops too?

Stepping out of the portal, Lin Fang calmly walked past a struggling party of adventurers. They stared in shock.

"Did — did he clear that dungeon by himself?"

A big guy helping his injured teammate snapped in disbelief. "No way. Absolutely impossible. We all know what it's like in there. He must have just hidden at the entrance to save face."

"Exactly. Look how clean he is. There's no way he actually fought those demon beasts."

Ignoring their whispers, Lin Fang walked straight to the instructor's desk and presented his scroll. "Sir, I'm here to complete my mission."

The mission scroll was stamped with a bright green seal of completion, proving everything. The pink-haired teacher held the paper, her eyes wide behind her glasses in disbelief. He actually managed to pass.

Lin Fang flashed a brilliant smile, confidently adding, "And I cleared it all by myself, ma'am."

The teacher turned away to file the scroll, but her voice remained stern. "I'll submit the mission scroll, but clearing a dungeon solo is far too reckless. If a brand new student died on a run, it would cause a massive problem for the academy."

Lin Fang nodded, putting on an obedient face. "I understand. Thank you for your guidance, Professor."

The teacher pointed the way. "The final instructor interviews are in the academy hall. Go get some rest first."

As Lin Fang turned to leave, a reflection in the glass showed a group of thugs with their arms crossed, watching his every move with malicious intent.

The teacher watched him go, thinking worriedly that maybe this would teach him a lesson. Being too bold would make life at the academy very difficult.
