A few hours after the fight with the Phex brothers, Yasuho and Tsurugi got Josuke on a call to go over what they had turned up.
Yasuho had been digging into the man named Josefumi Kujo, the stranger who seemed to make up Josuke's other half. She had found a few things — his father's name, the place he was born, and a residence not far from the Higashikata estate. When she asked why he was so fixated on him, Josuke explained that he thought Josefumi Kujo might be him. It confused him all over again, the same way it had before, that the police were making no effort at all to find a missing man. Determined to get at the truth, he told her he was going to go to Josefumi's house himself and confront whoever lived at the address.
The conversation was cut short when Josuke spotted Daiya coming home. Buzzing with energy, she dropped onto the couch beside him and let him know that this was the first time Hato had ever brought her boyfriend to the house.
The excitement hit a wall the moment the man came through the door.
Norisuke and Joshu stood there examining his unexpected physical appearance. He was short and overweight, with a horseshoe moustache straight out of the eighties and a tracksuit to match. Excusing himself, the old-looking fellow introduced himself as Tamaki Damo. He was twenty-three years old, he said, and he managed a dry cleaner's. Joshu, unable to contain himself, found the mismatch hilarious.
Being the troll he was, Joshu lunged out and forcibly swiped the sunglasses off the man's face, revealing a prominent bald spot on his forehead as he did it. He had done it, obviously, because he did not want a guest wearing sunglasses indoors, which made a certain amount of sense. Awkwardly, then, Joshu tried to fix up the supposed twenty-three-year-old's diminishing hairline.
Cleaning nearby, Kyo found some wet handprints and wiped them up. She went to walk off, but stopped, because she had noticed even more handprints in another room.
Back in the lounge, after receiving his yokan, Norisuke also spotted a strange wet handprint, which confused him. Casting about for conversation, he asked how long the two of them had been dating, and Hato said, without a flicker of embarrassment, that he had already cleared her level ninety-nine dungeon a few times. Norisuke broke out in a hot sweat. Joshu, unable to contain himself, cracked up in the background.
Unbeknownst to him, those same wet prints Kyo and Norisuke had seen had attached themselves to Joshu's wrist.
Moving into the sitting area, Damo tried to squeeze himself into a guest chair. It was a tight fit, and although Norisuke offered him the seat of honour, Damo politely declined — only to have the chair splinter and then break beneath him.
Moments later, attempting to salvage the conversation, Norisuke asked how the couple had first met. While he did it, he distractedly wiped more of the strange handprints off the window and off the wall. However, when he saw the two of them lean in to kiss, he broke out in a manic rage and demanded that they stop. Unconcerned, Hato dealt him a final heartbreaking blow. She casually revealed that on top of everything else, they had already shared five baths together.
Amidst the chaos, Joshu opened a bottle of champagne and sent the cork rocketing across the room. It bounced and ricocheted off several surfaces before passing through Damo's comb-over and blowing his hair all over the place. As Joshu stammered out an apology, he realised with some confusion that his bracelet had somehow slipped completely off his wrist.
Over in the other room, Josuke realised he had never actually hung up on Yasuho, and returned to the call with her.
Paisley Park worked almost like a machine that fed her information, and after a bit of searching Yasuho told him she had found a photograph from Josefumi's passport. She admitted the picture looked nothing like Josuke, though she thought that might just be the angle, so she decided to fax him over a copy to look at himself.
Back with Norisuke, he asked about Damo's store, which apparently he had recently renovated. According to Hato, when she had been at a photoshoot next to Damo's shop, one of the necklaces she was wearing snapped, out of absolutely nowhere at the time. Damo had not just picked up the pieces. He had painstakingly repaired it and returned it to her. If you looked really closely at it, it had a personalised design on it that read, "I love you." To Hato it was an irresistibly romantic gesture, and it had sealed her affection for him immediately.
Not concerned with any of this, Josuke announced that he was going to step outside for a moment. Stopping him quickly, Norisuke asked if he could check up on Kyo, since she had not come out of the room she had gone into a while back. At the same time, Damo asked to be excused so that he could wash his hands. Getting up, Joshu pointed him towards the door on the right.
But Damo, not listening, strolled into the room on the left. Joshu caught him doing it, and not wanting him in that room, for reasons that would matter in a moment, yelled at him to go into the other room already.
In the foyer, Josuke found Kyo's discarded dish towel and disturbing traces on the floor, as though she had literally slipped into the walls.
Curious himself about why Damo had not listened to him, Joshu went into the room to the right of the Higashikata bathroom. Creeping his way in, he found the protective locker for the camera equipment smashed open and the hardware inside destroyed.
As the fax machine finally hummed to life, an absolutely confusing image emerged. The man in the photograph, labelled Josefumi Kujo, was obviously Tamaki Damo.
Before anyone could point out the discrepancy, Joshu was still in the other room, still examining the security system. He went to open the cabinet further and somehow got his hand looped in behind the locker handles. When he tried to wrench himself free, his arm stretched out, and the stretch made him trip and strike his head against the tap.
The tap sank easily into his weirdly malleable skull, and he had to peel his head off it. Doing that turned the tap on, and, unable to move in time, the running water drilled him down into the sink. As it forced him further and further down, Joshu and his stand slowly began to liquefy. Trapped in a vortex of liquid, Joshu watched powerlessly as his own body drained into the sink.
In the other room, Daiya heard the fax machine and went to check it out. From what she could see, she could only make out the name Josefumi Kujo, and she refused to let anybody else look at the page, since it was probably meant for Josuke. She ran to find him, but before she could make it into his room, she collapsed onto the floor.
Standing there, Josuke watched in horror as she too began to melt into the floor.
Back with Damo, the man strolled calmly into the family room as if nothing had happened at all. He remained eerily calm, and turned to Hato with a chilling politeness, asking her to go into the foyer and retrieve the fax document. While she went off to get it, Norisuke took a sip of his champagne.
The bubbles transferred from the wine to his skin and began violently bouncing around. Unable to control his own movements, his arm spasmed and forced the rest of the glass into his mouth. The added weight of the wine glass collapsed his jaw and caused his body to start melting. Pulling the glass off his face, Norisuke managed to stop the liquefaction of his own body, and sat there, freaking out.
Having sat down in the chair next to him, Damo dropped the act and revealed the true reason he had come into this house. He had, he said, three problems that needed solving.
He revealed his stand — a grainy, jester-like figure, and the thing responsible for softening the family members' bodies into a jelly-like state. Then Damo explained his first objective. He was investigating the suspicious disappearance of four of his acquaintances. They consisted of an architect, two twin brothers, and a security guard. If they never returned, or were found dead, then he was determined to eliminate whoever was responsible.
While Damo cruelly toyed with the softened, helpless Norisuke, he demanded information about Yoshikage Kira, someone he had heard was close to this family. Norisuke tried to play dumb, saying he did not know anything about this hunt of his.
