Chapter 2A Pulse, Thoroughly Checked

Up in the stands, a wild-eyed girl who had been watching the fight was thrilled that Zeke had won the battle, because she believed a fight between the two of them would be spectacular.

Later on, Decker came to Zeke's room to check on him, and Zeke assured him that he was fine. Decker then asked Zeke if he could check his pulse, and Zeke immediately worked out that Decker only wanted to check whether he had awakened his aura.

Zeke hesitated a little before offering him his arm for the supposed pulse check. He was shocked when Decker started, because Decker was very thorough with it, which showed that he was a blue knight at the very least. Imbuing someone else with aura is as difficult as it comes, and yet Decker was doing it easily.

Speaking of knights, they are not all the same, because they are classified according to their martial prowess and their proficiency in aura manipulation. The white swordsmen are at the novice level, and the title of yellow swordsman is for those who have awakened their aura and opened their dantian. All the trainees in the cradle become yellow swordsmen after the blessing rite.

Those who are able to control their aura freely are immediately given the title of knight. A purple knight is one who can reinforce his sword with aura, while the blue knight is for those who can manifest an aura. However, there is a realm where knights have gone beyond the human, and it was a realm that both Liam and Zeke had reached in their past lives.

That realm is called the red knight, and beyond it there is the black knight, though there are only a few of them on the entire continent. Because of how capable a blue knight is, Zeke started to wonder how someone like Decker had ended up as his attendant. Nonetheless, Zeke was confident there was no way Decker could detect his ether, because there were only two people in the entire world who could use it.

After Decker was done checking, he asked in a serious voice whether Zeke was hiding anything from him. Zeke went on the defensive and threw the question back at Decker before walking away, telling Decker he was only messing around. Decker then asked Zeke why he had suddenly changed so much, but Zeke told him that the right question was why he had changed only now.

Zeke let Decker know that things were only about to change even more, because things were going into their rightful places, and he would like Decker and the rest to follow him. It hit Decker so hard that he immediately assured Zeke he fully understood the situation. Decker then told Zeke that he had prepared the training room he had asked for, and Zeke commended him for always working so hard.

Deep down, Zeke was aware that someone had put Decker in charge of monitoring him, which was exactly why he was interested in keeping him close, so that he could get information out of him instead. However, Zeke was left with the big question of who might have ordered Decker to keep an eye on him. He was fairly sure that the person was not from his mother's side. Zeke assumed it would be one of his siblings.

Later on, Zeke made his way to the personal training room Decker had arranged for him, and he was impressed by the high standard of everything in it. Before training, he decided to check the system first, and after opening the status window he realised that his slash skill had become even stronger than before.

Zeke worked out that the skill got more effective the more he used it. Since the skill had been activated because of his own actions, he decided that he must have had it before. He wondered whether a new skill would be added to the array of his skills if he simply learned a new one. Suddenly he realised that he had not yet worked out the difference between a skill and a class skill, since they were activated in similar ways.

He kept looking through and noticed that his draconian skill needed points to unlock, and that to get the karma points he needed, he had to kill monsters. He did not think this was a problem, because there were plenty of monsters in the dungeons, but at the same time he had to be at the level of a purple knight to be allowed into them.

Zeke was more concerned about why he had regressed at all, and about what the system was, because he had so little information. Nonetheless, he was ready to use the system as long as it helped him get stronger. No matter which way it went, there was one definite thing, and that was that there are two known powers in this world, the aura of the knights and the mana of the mages.

Knights reinforce their aura in the dungeons, while mages handle their mana through circles. These are two powers that oppose each other, so if a person awakens one, there is no way for them to awaken the other. Zeke, however, had not been fortunate enough to awaken either. Because of this, he had been abandoned by his family, and that was how he came to meet his master during his vagabond days.

Zeke's master was the one who taught him a great many things, but the most useful thing she taught him was healing and the use of the ether hall. In the end, he and his master were the only two people in the world who could use ether.

Two hours into training, Zeke was already panting like a goat. Since he was exhausted so quickly, he had no choice but to activate the healing skill and the vigour recovery skill. Healing was a rare skill that even Zeke had not known existed before he met his master, but if he used it in front of people, they would treat him like an irregular. That was the main reason he had hesitated to use it during his fight with Liam, and why he had hurried back to his room afterwards so he could heal himself.

Since he was done healing himself, Zeke returned to his training and only stopped when it was dinner time.

One week after this, reports started flying around about Zeke and the fact that he had become a totally different person. Some did not want to believe that his transformation was real, while others assumed he had dabbled in black magic. On the other hand, there were some who were praying that he would get even stronger, so that he could humble the bullies at the top.
