Chapter 21: Chapter Twenty-One: An elf in our midst

Chapter Twenty-One: An elf in our midst

Central Continent, Night City – Earth's Federation Headquarters:

Inside a plain, dimly lit meeting room, several dozen individuals, each exuding a formidable aura, sat around a long conference table.

Despite the number of people present, silence reigned as they observed one another, some radiating intense bloodlust.

"This is not the place to air your petty disputes."

A one-eyed, middle-aged man with a frightening presence broke the silence, his gaze sweeping over the seated individuals.

"While that isn't incorrect, I'll have to disagree, Mr. Wing."

Another middle-aged man with a goatee shook his head, tapping his finger against the table rhythmically.

He glanced at the one-eyed man, a mix of respect and defiance flickering in his eyes.

"I don't know what's going on, but for the Ruler to summon us like this... isn't it a bit inappropriate?"

As soon as the man with the goatee finished speaking, several powerful auras flared, making the atmosphere tense.

"Lirick, don't you dare speak ill of the Ruler. Otherwise, you won't leave this room alive."

A young woman with emerald eyes growled, sending chills down everyone's spine.

"You may be strong, Elena, but I, Lirick, am no pushover. Just because your army took down the Purple Sea Kingdom doesn't make you unstoppable."

Lirick's aura flared in defiance. He wasn't backing down.

"Good. Now let's see what an old dog from the Champion's Empire can actually do."

Elena smirked, her presence shifting into something beastly.

"You think I'll back down? Dream on, little girl!" Lirick snarled, rising from his seat.

"YOU TWO, STOP RIGHT NOW!"

The one-eyed man roared in fury. "Do you think this is your kingdom? Your city?!"

Immediately, a terrifying presence bore down on the room, forcing everyone to shift in their seats.

Lirick sat back down, his face pale as a sheet of paper.

At that moment, the door at the end of the hall swung open, and a young woman in a golden-embroidered robe strode in.

Her overwhelming, tyrannical aura blanketed the room, instilling fear in all who bathed in it.

If Twilight were here, he would immediately recognize her as his sponsor: Alice, the Flame Empress.

But before anyone could react, Alice had already reached her seat and sat down.

Then, the door opened again, and a black-cloaked individual entered.

His presence was mild — subtle — but the reaction was immediate.

Everyone stood, respect flickering in their eyes.

They all knew who he was.

A legend in the history of Earth.

The man who had single-handedly defeated all the major powers and claimed rulership of Earth with absolute authority.

With calm, steady steps, the cloaked young man walked to the head of the table and unhurriedly sat down.

"Sit."

His voice carried power, and without hesitation, they obeyed, eyes locked onto their Ruler.

"Now that everyone is present, let's begin."

He paused, scanning their expressions.

Seeing no objections, he continued:

"I won't waste time. We all know that our world is no longer ours alone. Three other races have been living among us, only revealing themselves after the Astral Realm descended."

The gathered individuals nodded, but confusion flickered in their eyes.

This was all common knowledge.

The Ruler wouldn't have summoned the sovereigns of Kingdoms and Empires just to state the obvious... right?

Seeing their doubt, the young man smirked and shook his head.

"I understand your confusion. But I didn't call you here to state the obvious. The truth is... I received AX-ranked information from the Sovereign System."

His expression darkened slightly.

"And it wasn't good news."

The room immediately tensed.

AX-ranked information was the highest level of secrecy.

Something that could determine the life or death of the human race.

Only Earth's Ruler, the sole wielder of the complete Sovereign System, could access such intelligence.

"Your Majesty," a tall, dark-skinned man spoke hesitantly:

"If you don't mind sharing... is this AX-ranked information disastrous?"

The others nodded, their eyes fixed on the Ruler.

The young man let out a soft sigh. "To be honest, even I don't fully understand the consequences yet. But one thing is certain."

He leaned forward, his voice chilling.

"There is an elf among us."

Silence.

Absolute silence.

Everyone in the room knew what this meant.

An elf among them was a traitor hiding in their ranks.

And worse...

If the Sovereign System had detected them, it meant that the elf possessed a fragment of the Sovereign System.

A Fragment!

This was no small matter.

If that elf assimilated the Sovereign System fragment with their own Ashira System fragment...

Humanity would be doomed.

"Y-Your Majesty, this is a grave matter..."

"Y-Yes! If we don't handle this properly, I'm afraid to say... our future is bleak."

"Those despicable elves! They think we humans are pushovers?!"

"Your Majesty, how is this even possible? We may not be as strong as the other races, but how could an elf infiltrate us this deeply?"

"Yeah. Our security isn't weak."

"So what? Just because it's strong doesn't mean it's impenetrable. We have spies in the other races, don't we? Are you saying their security is lacking?"

"No matter what, we must deal with this immediately!"

Voices clashed with one another.

Some cursed... some doubted, while many feared.

The cloaked young man watched them in amusement.

Then, he smiled.

"If you doubt me, I have proof."

He waved his hand, and a blue screen materialized before them.

On it, a single name was visible.

---

[Character Nickname: Sorrow]

[Race: Doom Elf]

[Status: Seeker]

---

Silence fell once more.

Everyone understood the implications. How could they not?

A DoomElf!

A hybrid between humanity's greatest enemy and the accursed Doom Bloodline. A being neither race would ever tolerate.

And this one — this... DoomElf— was a Seeker.

Which meant he or she had a sponsor.

And that meant... they were hiding somewhere in humanity's ranks.

"Your Majesty," a woman with long blue hair spoke, a dangerous glint in her eyes. "If you won't reveal this player's full identity, how are we supposed to hunt them down?"

Her tone was casual— but everyone knew what she meant. She wasn't just asking to find the DoomElf... she was asking to kill them.

The others looked at her with disdain.

They all wanted the DoomElf dead, but Jillian was far too eager.

"That," the Ruler said coldly, "is not for you to know, Mrs. Jillian."

His gaze swept over the room.

"I've given my order. Find Player Sorrow."

He smirked coldly.

"And I shall end him personally."

He rose from his seat, walking toward the door. But just before leaving, he halted his steps.

Turning back, he spoke in a resolute tone:

"Whoever finds Player Sorrow... I will grant them my experience to break into the Trial Immortal Realm."

Then, he left, and the room erupted.

...

Elsewhere...

Alice smirked from her seat.

She called upon her status screen, focusing on a single point.

---

[Sponsoree: [View]]

---

She unhurriedly enlarged the information.

---

[Sponsoree: Twilight Sorrow]

[Character Nickname: Sorrow]

[Race: Doom Elf]

[Status: Seeker]

[Potential: M+...]

---

Her smirk deepened, but a melancholic look flashed across her eyes.

"Interesting."
