Chapter 2A Slice of Cake

But fame always brought problems. So soon, the young man began to be recognized by other players from the guilds. The head of the Invincibles, Jeremy Price, was the first to notice the player who had already made a name for himself with his exploits.

The hero had no desire to enter into conversations with the people who were detaining him. But Sally and Roy, who were Jeremy's faithful assistants, supported his decision to talk. Jake immediately sensed that the intentions of his new acquaintances were far from good. Price was used to always getting what he wanted. And now he liked Romero's rare catch.

So Sally was the first to rush into battle, since she did not feel any danger from one opponent. But these guys forgot that Jake had recently single-handedly defeated a powerful boss. For this reason, all the blows of the unknown players seemed to the hero to be no stronger than weak jabs. He hadn't spent all this time leveling up just to lose to some bunch of idiots.

Although the hero had no one to support him, the guy was confident in his own abilities. He possessed such rare skills that none of the rich players could even dream of. So the hero's victory in this skirmish was only a matter of time, because he would not lose to anyone. His skills allowed him to deal so much damage at once that dodging was useless.

Because of this, one of them soon suffered a crushing defeat in a couple of minutes. But the others, seeing this, only became more inflamed with a thirst for justice and revenge. Only their leader noticed that now all the group's skills would not be enough to win. No matter how hard Sally tried, it was all useless against just one opponent.

She kept missing her target, because the hero had recently leveled up his agility. While Jake's attacks hit their target every time, Sally's defense was too high. So the young man had to inflict a lot of damage on his opponent before she lost. Jeremy's assistant fought to the last, desperately trying to defend the honor of her boss.

Romero was forced to admit that he had a worthy opponent, which made him tense up. But all this was unable to bring relief to Sally, who could not achieve victory. No matter how much she tried to defend herself, she was repeatedly hit by the hero's powerful blows. Jake had no intention of feeling sorry for his opponent, as he could end up in her place if he showed weakness.

As soon as Romero finished with the first enemies, he turned his attention to the important Jeremy. Unlike his assistants, Price was in no hurry to enter into battle, because he could force his friends to protect him. But the hero dealt with the guy who didn't know how to hold a weapon properly in a few seconds. So it was Jeremy's turn, and he still accepted this fight, which threatened him with consequences.

The guy didn't want to die, as he had just recently robbed several other players. Everything would have been fine if the leader of the Invincibles had simply passed by the hero at that moment, but he acted differently, and now he was forced to bear responsibility for his stupid choice. Jake was not used to showing mercy to enemies who were the first to try to take away his game life.

This is how Jeremy's overconfidence led him to defeat. But everything could have ended differently. From now on, Romero became a permanent enemy for Price, who could not come to terms with such a quick loss. But the hero didn't care about the possible consequences, because he fought only for self-defense. However, the guy did not refuse good clothes, which dropped in large quantities from the players.

After the battles, the young man returned to the village with pleasure, but still remained attentive. He remembered that soon difficult bosses of this world would appear among the players, and one of the girls immediately attracted the hero's attention with her spontaneity and stupidity. It was obvious that this little girl was part of some huge game quest. Her name was Lunali Day, and she was one of the most powerful bosses in this magical reality.

But the girl was in no hurry to reveal her identity, because first she had to complete her tasks. Many people passed by a little girl who wanted to eat. But Jake was not one of them. This girl reminded him of his younger sister, whom the guy always tried to take care of. As a child, Lorie often craved sweets, but her family couldn't afford them.

Jake always pretended that the food was bad, so that his little sister wouldn't get even more upset. So the hero couldn't pass by the girl who reminded him so much of Lorie. Although doubts were still present inside the hero, he did not want anyone to cry any longer. But the young man didn't expect that completing the quest would turn out to be much more difficult than he thought.

The man immediately named such a high price for the cake that it could have bought a lot of weapons. Moreover, this was all the money that Jake had left after numerous victories. But the cunning little girl quickly cleared the hero of his doubts when she asked for a piece of food again. The girl looked so cute and innocent that no older brother could resist her.

The seller was only too happy to earn so much money for just one piece of cake. At that moment, Jake had no idea what trials he had signed himself up for with such a heroic choice. From now on, he forever attracted the attention of Lunali Day, who tested the strength of many players. But up to this point, no one had been able to fulfill all of the girl's conditions for her to open up.

The hero realized too late that he was facing an extremely powerful non-player character. The girl had noticed at first glance that Romero was different from the others, but continued her game. Day did not torment the poor boy for long, who had proved himself worthy of her test. Lunali had come to the village only to find someone who would pass it.

Before the hero, none of the players had dared to help the little girl once he heard the price of the cake, and only Jake went all the way to the end, which is why he received an individual test. At that moment, the boy had no idea what this help from the cunning Lunali would cost him. He paid all the money for the cake, and the game considered this payment as a real transaction.

So the young man had no choice but to sell some of his equipment. The hero's rare items quickly attracted the attention of players who slowly increased their levels. Jake selected all the most unnecessary things from what he was able to put up for sale. His talent did not go unnoticed, not only by ordinary players, but also by more powerful people.
