Rilifine is an apprentice witch and the older brother of Riche. He currently studies under Belderoot, one of the three wise ones.
Personality-wise, Rilifine is quiet and doesn't like crowded places. He prefers calm, empty spaces where he can be alone. When he's separated from his master and surrounded by people, he can have panic attacks. The truth is, he doesn't like being around others because he feels like their eyes are always watching him. In a crisis, while most people feel safe being with others, Rilifine feels more comfortable and relaxed in quiet, empty spaces.
But his character is defined by something much deeper. You see, Rilifine sees himself as a failure. The reason for this comes from his past, especially his time at his old atelier. Like Riche, he was under the care of their terrible excuse for a master. But unlike his sister, Rilifine didn't fight back.
The clearest example of this comes from the moments when Riche was being verbally attacked. In front of other apprentices, their master would insult her and treat her harshly. During those moments, Rilifine could not speak up. He would only look down and stay silent. For instance, after punishing Riche, their master told her to learn from Rilifine instead. He praised Rilifine for being obedient and easy to control, even going as far as stroking his hair while saying it. But when Rilifine did not respond, the master suddenly yelled at him, ordering Rilifine to come with him.
Even earlier, when Riche first arrived at that atelier, Rilifine was not happy to see her. Instead, he was afraid. He already understood what kind of place it was.
Despite everything, there's one thing he truly values. Rilifine admires Riche's strength. While he remained silent, Riche continued to express herself and protect her individuality. To him, that brilliance is what kept her going. At one point, he even thanked her for it. His biggest regret is that he could not protect her.
Now, as Belderoot's apprentice, Rilifine believes that Riche no longer needs someone like him. In his mind, he lost the right to stand beside her the moment he failed to help her when she needed him most. But his current master sees things differently. Belderoot does not view Rilifine as weak. Instead, he sees strength in his actions. Leaving that atelier and going to Argent Gard to continue his path as a witch required courage. To Belderoot, that alone proves that Rilifine is strong in his own way.
At one point, he left Riche to become an apprentice under an unnamed witch, a memory that became a nightmare for Riche. According to Rilifine, his former master is a controlling man who enjoys putting his students through hell as a form of discipline. In fact, Rilifine's arms are covered with scars from his old professor's attacks.
When he learns that Riche will be left in that master's care, the master threatens him. If Rilifine tells Riche or their parents what kind of person he really is, he will be punished. If he stays quiet, he will only get two lashes instead of ten each time. By staying silent, Rilifine protects Riche from physical punishment. He sees Riche as the strong child who saves him and the other apprentices from their master's control.
But because he didn't speak up when it mattered most, Rilifine blames himself for the nightmares his sister had. Of course, Riche forgave him a long time ago. Seeing her again after so long, Rilifine realizes that he needs to find his own courage too, for both himself and his sister. Interestingly, Prince Eolio calls Rilifine his master.
