Chapter 5The Leopard Tattoo

A week later, unable to sleep, Minjun wandered outside the mansion in the middle of the night. His mind was full of questions. Every morning Daiki kissed him, supposedly for Thomas's sake, and Minjun could not believe that was the real reason. To him those kisses felt completely forced, which made the boss's behaviour even more confusing.

While he was lost in thought, a man greeted him casually.

Embarrassed at not remembering his name, Minjun apologised and asked who he was. The man introduced himself as Shima, and pointed toward another man nearby, explaining that he was Yukio.

Curious, Minjun asked whether Shima had already started work. Shima explained that he and Yukio simply enjoyed taking care of the garden before work, as a hobby. That was why they woke up so early.

Watching Yukio quietly tending the flowers, Minjun remarked that he did not look like someone who could hurt a fly. Shima laughed and admitted that most members of the gang thought the same thing.

Their conversation went on comfortably until Minjun commented that nobody seemed to know Yukio's real age. Shima suggested that perhaps Daiki or Sho might know. He also explained that Sho, Daiki's godfather, usually spent his time in the kitchen because he loved cooking, despite being a yakuza.

Elsewhere in the house, the teacher woke suddenly from a confusing dream about Minjun. The dream had brought feelings to the surface that he would have preferred not to acknowledge. Feeling embarrassed, he sighed in frustration at the thought of having to face Minjun again.

Hearing voices outside, he looked out of the window and saw Minjun chatting with Shima. The moment he recognised him, he blushed, closed the window hurriedly, and tried to compose himself.

Outside, Minjun kept talking with Shima until the other man was called away for work. As Minjun walked back inside, he realised that despite being members of a yakuza organisation, these people were nowhere near as frightening as he had expected. They simply seemed like people who were a little different from everyone else.

While walking upstairs, he became curious once again about the rooms near the library, the ones that had always caught his attention. Thinking it would only take a second, he quietly opened one of the doors to have a quick look inside.

The moment he stepped in, he froze.

Daiki was inside, in the middle of changing into his uniform. More than the fact that the boss was half dressed, what immediately caught Minjun's attention was the enormous leopard tattoo covering his leg.

Daiki noticed him standing in the doorway and looked startled. Panicking, Minjun covered his eyes and apologised over and over, explaining that he had entered the wrong room by mistake.

Clearly unimpressed, Daiki asked how it was possible that Minjun still did not know which room belonged to him.

Embarrassed, Minjun turned to leave, and tripped over the door track before he could get away.

Daiki reacted instantly and caught him before he fell.

Finding himself in the boss's arms, Minjun blushed intensely. Daiki remained perfectly calm. Frozen, Minjun could not move, aware of Daiki's touch and of his own hands pressed flat against the other man's body while he struggled to process what had just happened.

Growing impatient, Daiki finally told him to pull himself together.

Startled, Minjun stepped back and apologised again and again. Ignoring the awkwardness entirely, Daiki instructed him to be at the dining table at exactly six thirty, and gave him twenty minutes to get ready.

Without arguing, Minjun hurried back to his room. He could not calm himself down. The image of the large leopard tattoo on Daiki's leg kept replaying in his mind, and he was even more shocked by how little the boss seemed to care that he had been seen like that.

Unable to hold the thought back any longer, Minjun muttered to himself that if things continued this way, he would probably die before he ever made it back to Korea.

His thoughts were interrupted by Thomas, who asked whether he was missing his father. Smiling gently, Minjun explained that Daiki was at work. He patted the boy's head and asked what he was drawing.

With sparkling eyes, Thomas replied that he was drawing his family. He proudly held up the picture. It showed himself, his father, and his mama. Seeing a drawing filled with that much love made Minjun smile warmly.

Meanwhile, in the kitchen, several of the men were chatting when they suddenly heard desperate shouts from both Minjun and Thomas, calling for Kenta.

Alarmed, they grabbed their weapons and rushed toward the sound, preparing for the worst.

When they arrived, there was no danger at all. Instead they found an indignant Minjun demanding to know why every single outfit in Thomas's wardrobe was black. He explained that he had only noticed it while Thomas was drawing.

Kenta replied honestly that black was considered a neutral colour. He explained that the rules of the house required Minjun to wear only black or white, with grey as the one acceptable variation.

Minjun could not believe what he was hearing. He asked why even Thomas was forced to wear those dull colours. He picked the little boy up into his arms and complained that even poop had a colour of its own, and yet Thomas's wardrobe contained nothing but black, white and grey.

The unexpected comparison left Kenta speechless for a moment. Then he admitted that Minjun had a point. Thomas had never even experienced wearing colourful clothes.

Taking advantage of the opening, Minjun asked sincerely whether he could dress Thomas in colourful outfits whenever Daiki was not at home. After thinking it over, Kenta agreed, but only on the condition that they did it while the boss was away.

Both Minjun and Thomas were thrilled by the approval. Excitedly, Minjun suggested that they go shopping together and buy plenty of colourful clothes for Thomas to try on.

Their excitement was cut short when Kenta reminded them that they were not allowed to leave the mansion. He explained, though, that they could shop online through a mall owned by Daiki. Taking out his phone, Kenta showed Minjun how to place an order, and assured him that the delivery would arrive quickly.

Although he was disappointed that they could not go out in person, Minjun became excited again once he realised he could buy whatever he wanted for Thomas. He turned to the little boy and asked whether he wanted to pick out clothes together with his mama.

Thomas agreed eagerly.
