After all, the number one student got a lot of resources, and he planned to become the strongest in this life while doing everything all by himself.
There was a beginner training base, created to help newly awakened rookies level up. It was filled with weak demon cave creatures that had been raised by humans. It was considered safe, and it was also the place where rookies could gain the most experience points. If one broke the clear time record there, they got bonus points in the upcoming provincial rookie tournament, which would massively boost their chances of getting into the best university.
With this in mind, Yan headed to the training base. But his plan was not just to level up like everyone else. He was there to crush the time record and secure his ticket to the top university.
Upon arriving at the entrance, the knight in charge checked his profile and realized that he was a one-in-ten-thousand dual-class awakener — and that both classes were F-rank. The knight felt forced to ask.
"You're sure you want to take on the challenge all by yourself?" He let Yan know that it might only be the first-stage dungeon of the beginner training base, but that it was not easy whatsoever. He urged Yan to team up with his classmates.
Yan told him that his mind was made up, and told the man to give him the beginner gear.
Deep down, the knight believed that Yan was finding it difficult to accept reality, because he had been at the top in both academics and combat before awakening double F-rank classes.
The man then presented Yan with the beginner gear, and Yan was surprised that it was not just an iron sword. He was given a pair of leather boots too. Yan understood at once that the man was being nice to him. The boots gave him an additional three points in speed.
Even though the man was trying to help, Yan realized that he was only underestimating him.
As he proceeded into the training area, the knight called after him, telling him to shout for help if he could not handle the charging rabbits converging on him. Yan continued confidently, thanking the knight for the reminder.
Just before he reached the training ground, Yan modified the sword and the boots — the sword to increase its penetration, the boots to add more bonus movement speed.
He could have changed the sword into a holy sword or a demon sword. He could not do that in the training area, because there were cameras everywhere. He had already paid the price for exposing his talent in his past life, and he was not about to make the same mistake again. And he knew that no matter how much modification he did to level one gear, it would never become something crazy.
In his current state, however, it was more than enough.
The training base was divided into three sections: the basic area, the advanced area, and the boss area. Normal combat training could be done in the basic area, and if a trainee wanted something tougher, they had the advanced area at their disposal. But if one wanted to set a clear time record, they had to reach the boss area and kill a boss-rank charging rabbit.
The charging rabbits were level one monsters. They had a crystal shell on their heads, which dealt damage by ramming, and they possessed an extremely violent temper.
Yan had come to the training base to reach level five straight up. To do that, he needed to kill at least a hundred of the charging rabbits.
In no time, the monsters started charging at him.
Yan was prepared to take them on, because it was only after he reached level five that he would be qualified to challenge the next stage, the Whirlwind Wolf Base. That area was a nightmare for newbies, but it was more or less the perfect place for Yan to level up.
Without hesitation, Yan dashed toward the rabbits, slicing them down one after the other. As he cut through them with little to no effort, he worked out that he might even get to level 10 in one go. Upon reaching level 10, he would unlock another skill, one that could help create ultimate monsters. With that, he knew he would become really strong.
While taking on the monsters, he remembered that Hongwei would be awakening around now. And he knew that the moment the guy awakened, he would definitely come looking for him, just to mess with him.
Just as he predicted, Hongwei had stepped onto the platform to awaken his class.
Hongwei prayed that he would get at least a class above Yan's, so he could finally win. The crystal reacted aggressively, and when his class finally awakened, it turned out to be an A-rank combat class.
Berserker.
Hongwei jumped up for joy, because he believed he had finally won. Even the students were amazed, because Hongwei had been stuck at number two thanks to Yan. He told everyone boastfully that he was no longer number two, but number one. His lackeys egged him on, praising him for finally overtaking Yan, whom they considered trash.
Since they could not find Yan anywhere, they assumed he had gone to hide somewhere after figuring out that Hongwei had awakened a class stronger than his. Then one of Hongwei's lackeys said he had seen Yan heading toward the beginner training base, and Hongwei immediately suggested that they go after him, because he was pretty sure Yan was struggling there.
They left under the guise that they wanted to go and help him. The teacher knew they were just heading there to make fun of Yan.
The teacher was sad about it, because he knew how hard Yan had always worked. He had seen him study late into the night in the classroom, and he had seen him push himself to breaking point when it came to combat. In the mana training room, even with the pain setting completely maxed out, he had never once seen Yan make a sound.
The teacher did not understand how someone who had worked as hard as Yan ended up awakening the most useless F-rank classes.
There was another student in the crowd, though, a purple-headed one, who believed in Yan and did not think that awakening F-rank classes was going to hold him back.
This student was Wang Qingfeng, and he was Yan's rival. He was in second place in the entire school in both academics and combat, right behind Yan. During their first-year finals, Qingfeng had been convinced by Yan's determination on the stage.
Since Hongwei was planning to cause trouble for Yan, Qingfeng decided to go and watch as well, because he wanted to be the only one who got to bother Yan. He planned to beat Hongwei up if he tried to touch him.
