Meanwhile, in the training base, Yan had finally killed over a hundred charging rabbits. Even though he had the experience, it still took a heavy toll on his weak body. He was not worried. All that was left was to kill the rabbit king, and once he beat the rabbit king, he cleared the area and hit level five.
The rabbit king was a level five monster with an element crystal shell on its head, able to deal elemental damage with its ramming attacks. At that moment, Yan was at level four, and he was pretty injured, so he knew that fighting the rabbit king head-on right then was going to end in defeat for him.
He already had a plan to win.
As the charging rabbit dashed toward him with its innate skill, Flame Headbutt, Yan did what he had been waiting to do. He modified the rabbit's skill from Flame Headbutt to Flame Head Burst — a skill that detonated the crystal on its head, dealing massive damage to both the enemy and the rabbit itself.
Before the rabbit could reach him, the crystal exploded, killing the rabbit king on the spot.
After killing it, Yan moved to level five, just as expected. And at the same time, the notice board came up with an announcement, telling everyone that the charging rabbit elite record had been broken by Yan in thirty-six minutes.
The students saw it and freaked out in shock, because the past year's record had been over an hour.
Hongwei did not want to believe it, and assumed that Yan had cheated somehow. He decided to go after Yan to show everyone that he was a fake.
Since he had defeated the charging rabbits, Yan decided it was time to move on to the next stage of the beginner training base, which was way stronger than the rabbits. Before moving on, he made sure to use his skill to repair himself.
The next monsters he would be going up against were the whirlwind wolves. In his past life, the Wolf King had given him more trouble than he expected. This time around, he planned to make the Wolf King pay, and to add a bit of interest on top.
Moments later, he arrived at the training base designated for the whirlwind wolves.
In this base, the regular wolves ranged from level 6 to level 9, and the Wolf King went all the way up to level 10. Freshmen at this stage were only between levels 1 and 5. So for a normal rookie to choose this base was just asking to be beaten up. The strength of the whirlwind wolves was terrifyingly high.
But at the same time, the rewards were massive. If one survived in the training base, they got more experience points than anywhere else at the current stage. He was level five. If he managed to defeat the Wolf King, he could jump straight to level 10 in one shot. On normal ground, it took a rookie about ten days to reach level 10. Clearing the base just once got a person straight there.
After hitting level 10, one could awaken a second innate skill and also gain permission to go and train alone in the wild. Both of these benefits were crucial to Yan on his path to power, so he knew the earlier the better.
Upon arriving at the entrance of the base, he met a rude knight, unlike the one at the charging rabbit base.
The man rudely asked Yan if he wanted to tackle the base alone, because even level eight or nine freshmen only came into the base with a six-man party. He mentioned that there had been a genius freshman who awakened an A-rank class and tried to solo it, and he had ended up getting injured so badly that he was not able to sit for the college entrance exams.
So he did not believe a piece of trash like Yan had any chance of doing what that guy could not pull off.
Yan thanked him for the warning, but let him know that he had no intention of changing his mind.
The knight let Yan know that he was not really warning him at all. If he was so eager to die, he was free to do that.
Yan was not surprised that he had just been looked down on again. He was never the type to stop because some guy talked down to him.
He dashed confidently into the training base and rushed toward the wolves.
The knight stood on the balcony to watch, surprised that Yan was rushing straight at them. He believed Yan was just some clueless idiot who was going to get himself killed.
He soon realized how wrong he was, when he saw Yan cutting down the monsters like they were nothing. Sweat ran down his face in shock, because Yan had not even used his innate skills, and he was already toying with the monsters. It left him asking himself whether Yan was truly a genius.
Not long after this, Yan had created a huge heap out of the monsters' corpses. At that point the knight simply concluded that Yan was a freaking powerhouse. He remembered mocking Yan on the way in, so he decided it was going to be a bad idea to stick around and let Yan meet him there.
Inside, Yan sat on the corpse heap to recharge. He admitted to himself that the difficulty in the training base was great, because if not for his resurrection skill, he would have died over and over again. He had gotten to level 9, after a painful fight against the annoying wolves, which were obviously stronger than the rabbits.
Even with the resurrection skill, the pain from his injuries did not lessen. Yan was not worried about that. He knew that changing his fate was going to come with some level of pain.
Since he had taken down the pack of wolves, what was left for him was the king of the wolves.
Just then, the Wolf King appeared in the distance. A level 10 monster, a beast whose fur resonated with the wind element, and which carried the Windblade Claw skill.
After checking out the wolf's skills, Yan realized that it was not going to leave him much room to modify. If he forced a change, he might actually make things worse. He started wondering what he was going to do in this situation.
And in the end, he pulled off his shirt to show his six-pack, and declared that he was going to do it in a man's way.
Aside from the skills he had, he was still number one in both academics and combat.
Without hesitation, Yan lunged at the Wolf King, ready to show him what he was made of.
