The next morning, Yunshu woke up after spending the night in the bedroom rather than on the couch. The moment he saw the beautiful omega, he greeted him warmly. Baitang immediately tensed like a frightened kitten. When he nearly lost his balance, Yunshu caught him in his arms. Since he was still having difficulty walking, Yunshu carried him, and insisted that he stop worrying about household chores. From now on, resting would be his only responsibility.
Watching the alpha's strange kindness, Baitang found himself wondering if amnesia could really change a person so completely.
Yunshu planned to prepare breakfast himself so Baitang would not have to risk reopening his wound while washing dishes or handling water. But Baitang could not relax. Those chores had always been his responsibility, and he was convinced that once the alpha regained his memories, he would punish him for neglecting them. Refusing to lower his guard, he secretly started vacuuming the floors.
When Yunshu mentioned hiring a cleaning lady to handle the housework, Baitang became terrified. How could an alpha support him while expecting nothing in return? Convinced that he was useless, he assumed there had to be a hidden motive behind such generosity. Desperately, he begged Yunshu not to hire anyone, and insisted that he could take care of every household task himself.
Yunshu gently patted his head, reassuring him that housework was not his obligation. All he wanted was for Baitang to rest. He then carried him outside to the garden so he would not remain trapped in his room all day. There, Yunshu wrapped him in a blanket to keep him warm and left him a small snack while lunch was being prepared.
However, when Baitang noticed eggs on the table, he quietly said that he could not eat them. Curious, Yunshu asked why he had also been forbidden from eating meat. Baitang explained that the original Yunsu had told him that eating meat would make his body fluids taste unpleasant.
Once again, Yunshu was disgusted by how selfish and cruel the previous owner had been, sacrificing Baitang's health for his own desires. From now on, he told him, he was free to eat meat whenever he wanted. Even so, Baitang assumed it was another lie. Trusting those words would only make his life more difficult, so he continued refusing.
A little later, he noticed a dead bird nearby and suddenly burst into tears. When Yunshu mentioned that he would bury it later, Baitang panicked and immediately apologized. He blamed himself for everything. He begged Yunshu not to hurt any more birds.
The sight had triggered painful memories from the past. He remembered secretly feeding hungry birds to keep them healthy. When the original Yunsu discovered it, he became furious that Baitang had used food he had purchased. No matter how much Baitang begged for forgiveness, the alpha had taken his anger out on the animals. Although Baitang himself had been injured during the incident, he had been powerless to save the birds. As a result, he still blamed himself for their deaths.
Despite Yunshu's attempts to comfort him, Baitang could only see the same alpha who had tormented him for years. Grabbing Yunshu's shirt, he tearfully demanded to know why someone declared brain dead had been allowed to wake up again. Why would the gods favor someone so cruel?
Yunshu accepted every accusation without argument. He admitted that the man who had committed those acts did not deserve forgiveness. However, he was not that man.
Unfortunately, as Baitang remembered the fate awaiting abandoned omegas, he suffered a severe panic attack. No matter how hard Yunshu tried to calm him, Baitang saw death as the only escape from his suffering.
Thankfully, they arrived at the hospital in time. His condition was extremely serious, and any further delay could have made things much worse. For now, he remained unconscious and would not wake up until the sedatives wore off.
Yunshu blamed himself. He knew Baitang's mental state was fragile, and he regretted not checking the garden sooner. If he had discovered the dead bird first, perhaps this breakdown could have been avoided. For the first time, he wished he had completed a second degree in psychology. Despite being a doctor, he had failed to save people he desperately wanted to help before. One of his former patients had died under his care. In this new life, he refused to watch Baitang suffer the same fate.
Determined to help him, Yunshu visited the psychology department and met the head physician, Dr. Kim Shon. The first thing he clarified was that he was not the patient. He had come seeking help for his omega.
Although the doctor had expected something unusual, he was still surprised. In this world, alphas were considered the favored elite. It was rare for them to acknowledge psychological problems, and even rarer for one to seek help on behalf of an omega.
Listening carefully, Dr. Kim heard the entire story. To secure proper treatment, Yunshu took responsibility for every terrible thing the original Yunsu had done. As he described the years of abuse, Dr. Kim was stunned. He had always thought Yunsu seemed like an ideal husband. Instead, he discovered that he had been a monster.
To test Yunshu's sincerity, Dr. Kim warned him that treatment would require enormous amounts of time, effort and money. If he gave up halfway, he would only hurt Baitang even more. Without hesitation, Yunshu promised he would do whatever was necessary.
The doctor then deliberately released oppressive alpha pheromones to intimidate him. Normally, such a challenge would provoke another alpha. Instead, Yunshu remained calm and showed no hostility. Having passed the test, he earned Dr. Kim's approval.
Since Baitang's greatest source of fear was his partner, Dr. Kim explained that Yunshu needed to keep some distance during the recovery process. That did not mean abandoning him. On the contrary, Baitang would still need reassuring pheromones to feel safe.
Dr. Kim was surprised when Yunshu admitted that he had no idea how to provide enough pheromones properly. Since the question was outside the scope of psychology, he suggested consulting the reproductive medicine department. Because both he and Yunshu were alphas, understanding an omega's perspective was difficult. For that reason, they decided to seek advice from Dr. Kim's spouse, an omega who taught psychology.
When the doctor called him, his sweet omega immediately scolded him, asking how many times he planned to call in a single day when he had already said he would be home that evening. Embarrassed, Dr. Kim quickly explained that this was a professional matter and handed the phone to Yunshu.
After hearing the entire story, the psychology professor compared it to a television drama. From Baitang's point of view, an abusive husband suddenly claiming memory loss sounded like nothing more than another excuse. Naturally, he would believe it was all a lie.
Yunshu immediately offered to hire the professor as Baitang's therapist, regardless of the cost. As long as Baitang could recover, money meant nothing to him.
After the meeting ended, Dr. Kim found himself wondering whether memory loss could truly change someone so completely.
