Later, they stopped in front of a large building. When Baitang asked why they weren't going home, Yunshu reminded him that they were visiting Fanqi Academy so he could officially re-enroll.
The omega almost couldn't believe it. Was he dreaming? After all these years, would he really be allowed to study again? No, this wasn't a dream. For him, it felt like an entirely new world.
After three long years, Baitang reunited with Fanqi Academy's principal, an alpha named Shai. The principal was delighted to see him again. Yunshu introduced himself as Baitang's partner and the person who had called earlier to begin the enrollment process. Now they only needed to complete the paperwork, order uniforms and collect textbooks.
As Baitang handled the admission procedures, happiness filled his heart. So much had changed since he last walked through the campus. Part of the academy's land had been seized and demolished by the government simply because it was a school dedicated to omegas.
Despite all the obstacles and discrimination, Principal Shai remained determined to ensure that omegas could live peacefully and independently. When he was younger, he had fallen in love with an omega teacher. Together, they fought for omega rights and opposed a society where omegas were forbidden from pursuing education and were expected to exist solely for reproduction. That dream led them to establish Fanqi Academy, a place where omegas could learn, grow, defend themselves and live independently rather than relying on alphas.
Tragically, Principal Shai's partner suffered terrible abuse at the hands of numerous alphas. The pain became so overwhelming that he eventually took his own life. To honor his memory, Principal Shai devoted himself to keeping the academy alive so that other omegas would never suffer the same fate.
As for Professor Shu, he had been fortunate enough to have a supportive family who helped him complete his education.
Returning to the present, Principal Shai was pleased by the way Yunshu treated Baitang. From the moment they entered the academy, Yunshu either walked beside Baitang or slightly behind him. He never walked ahead. For many alphas, maintaining a dominant position was considered extremely important, and anything else would be seen as an insult to their status. Yet Yunshu showed no concern for superiority or hierarchy. In the principal's eyes, he was vastly different from the arrogant man who had accompanied Baitang during his enrollment years ago. The principal never realized they were technically the same person.
Back then, Yunsu had used sweet words and manipulation to convince Baitang to abandon his studies. Only now did Baitang fully understand the truth. The original Yunsu had used him as a way to satisfy his own sense of superiority and prove that omegas would never enjoy the same opportunities as others because of their social status. Looking back, Baitang couldn't believe he had trusted that bastard so completely and followed him without question.
Seeing little Baitang cry as he remembered his painful past, the principal gently comforted him. He explained that there was no need to dwell on everything that had happened. What mattered now was the present. If Baitang ever struggled, the school would help him find his way again. For now, he should stop crying and go home, since his alpha was still waiting for him. Yunshu had even brought him a beautiful bouquet of flowers to celebrate his return to school.
Even so, the current Yunshu still felt like a complete stranger to Baitang.
Before heading home, they stopped by a supermarket. Wanting to test him, Baitang asked about chrysanthemums, a flower that the old Yunsu had hated. To his surprise, the current Yunshu genuinely liked them. The omega wondered if amnesia could really make someone forget the foods they hated. He needed to know whether Yunshu was lying.
That night, Yunshu prepared a soup containing chrysanthemums along with several other foods that the previous Yunsu had always despised. Baitang remembered the last time he had accidentally cooked chrysanthemums. Back then, he had been beaten for it. He could hardly believe that the same man was now willingly cooking them himself.
After lunch the next day, Yunshu took Hongtang out for a walk. When he returned, he handled all the cleaning himself, because in his opinion that was simply what a husband should do.
Still, Baitang refused to give up on his suspicions. Amnesia might erase memories, but it should not change the body's natural dislikes. He needed one final test.
After returning from the park, Yunshu was exhausted from running around with the dog. Waiting for him was a plate full of mangoes prepared by his beloved spouse. He felt happy, believing that Baitang was finally starting to accept him little by little.
Unfortunately, the happiness was short-lived. After Yunshu ate a few pieces, Baitang suddenly snatched the plate away and fed the rest to the dog. Since he still considered himself unworthy of Baitang's trust, Yunshu quietly retreated to his room for a shower so he wouldn't bother him.
Meanwhile, Baitang couldn't make sense of what was happening. Yunshu's personality, behavior, appearance and even his temperament were completely different. It was almost as if he were an entirely different person. That led Baitang to develop an even more shocking theory. What if Jang Yunsu had been replaced? He needed to uncover the true intentions of this alpha. Was he really pretending to be Yunsu, or was Baitang actually in danger? Although it was only speculation, he wanted solid proof before making any decisions.
At the same time, Yunshu suddenly developed a terrible itch while showering. Soon, an allergic reaction spread across his body. Only then did he realize that Baitang's strange behavior had been another test. Fortunately, the omega still had enough common sense not to let him eat too much mango, the food that had triggered his allergy.
The next morning, Yunshu wore a mask to cover the effects of the allergic reaction. Despite that, he still insisted on taking Baitang to school. Baitang remained determined not to be fooled. Perhaps the allergies were fake too.
A few blocks away from the academy, he got out of the car and walked the rest of the way alone. While searching for someone, he suddenly ran into Professor Shu, who startled him. The reason for the meeting was a special favor. Baitang wanted a DNA test performed on Yunshu.
To his surprise, the results showed no abnormalities at all. The samples undeniably belonged to the real Jang Yunsu. Professor Shu became concerned that Baitang might be in danger, but the omega quickly changed the subject rather than involve the older man in his theories. As he returned to class, he found himself wondering what could possibly cause a person to change so completely.
Lost in thought, he accidentally bumped into someone. The young man immediately recognized him, and Baitang recognized him as well. It was his best friend, Shung Ruan.
Ruan, who was also an omega, was delighted to see Baitang back at school. However, he quickly apologized for what had happened in the past. More than three years ago, Ruan had confronted Baitang about abandoning his education for an alpha. At the time, Baitang had stubbornly insisted on leaving school, and in a fit of anger Ruan shouted that he never wanted to see him again. Only later did he realize that he had lost his best friend because of his hatred toward alphas. Now he sincerely apologized for everything he had said.
Baitang, however, insisted that his friend had been right all along. He had simply been too naive to listen. As tears streamed down his face, Ruan comforted him, reminding him that he now had friends, the principal and the school to support him.
After calming down, Baitang asked how Ruan's life had been over the past few years. He remembered that Ruan had always dreamed of entering politics. Ruan had consistently ranked first on the written examinations. Unfortunately, the interview panels were dominated by alphas who rejected him three years in a row. When he exposed the corruption behind the exams, he became their target. Thankfully, the principal stepped in to help him. As a result, Ruan became a temporary teacher at Fanqi Academy.
The bright and energetic omega had gradually lost his spark because of the discrimination he faced. Even so, Ruan remained unbreakable. He swore to continue fighting alpha arrogance until his very last breath. Once he was no longer being targeted, he intended to take the civil service exam again.
