The vet was stunned as he watched every cow in the shed settle under the influence of Sihon's song. Afterwards Sihon cheerfully asked whether he could treat the cow now that she had calmed down a little. Some time later the three of them headed inside Jong's house, the sick cow taken care of. Jong offered them coffee, but Sihon turned it down because of his diet.
The vet reported his analysis to Jong, explaining that the cow only had a simple fever, and that the agitation had made her symptoms look far worse than they were. He reassured him that the calf inside her was perfectly healthy, and added that he had given the cow some medication and that she should be fine after proper rest.
Jong finally breathed a sigh of relief and thanked the vet, who immediately turned to ask how Sihon had calmed the cows with a simple song. He was confused about whether what he had heard was even a song, and about how it had instantly settled the agitated animals. Without waiting for an answer, he fired a barrage of questions at Sihon and wondered aloud whether he was some kind of witch doctor.
Sihon was confused about where to start, and just as he was about to explain himself, Jong chimed in and asked why the vet was making such a fuss. The vet ignored him completely and practically begged Sihon to teach him how to use the song. Sihon was not expecting that, and the vet told him the skill was genuinely necessary for a man in his profession.
Since they could not sedate every agitated animal, a natural way to calm them down would be an enormous help. To the vet's disappointment, Sihon explained that the song was just a simple Western folk song he had learned online. What the vet did not know was that it was actually a humming technique used by druids. It might look like singing, but it was a method of breathing in harmony with nature, and it was not something anyone could learn by being taught.
Thankfully Jong broke the awkwardness by telling the vet that animals simply flocked to Sihon because they adored him, so it had nothing to do with any technique. He also mentioned that the village's most infamous mean dog had been fawning over him a few days earlier. The vet, who knew that dog, was shocked to hear it, and Jong added that animals always behaved well around Sihon.
The vet was not really surprised, and said he had met someone like that before. It had been one of his professors in college, a very skilled veterinarian whom animals followed around for no reason. He admitted that it was an innate gift, and that no amount of teaching would let him mimic it no matter what he did. For the very first time in his life, the vet admitted that he was envious of somebody.
To console him, Jong told him to go to Sihon whenever he needed help, since the two of them were around the same age. The vet was pleased to hear it, and told Sihon he was twenty-nine and wondered how old he was. Sihon revealed that he was only a year younger. The vet said he hoped Sihon could help him out if something like this happened again.
He explained that smaller animals were manageable on his own, but that bigger ones like cows and horses were tough to handle without a sedative. Sihon agreed to help without hesitation, but said he could not do it for free. The vet offered to pay for his services, and Sihon let him know that payment in small things like a bag of sweet potatoes would be quite enough.
That led the vet to conclude that Sihon was a very peculiar individual. Nevertheless he agreed to the terms, and they shook hands to seal the deal. Afterwards Sihon told him to drop the honorifics and be comfortable with each other, since they were neighbours. He had finally made a new connection in this world while carrying on as a druid in a world without magic.
A few days later it was still raining without a break, so he decided to record some ASMR content. The monsoon season was dragging on longer than expected, and it had been hard to tend the garden, so he had no content to post and had taken a break from his vlog. But the rain looked beautiful that day, so he decided to film the sound of it.
Truthfully he was only doing it because Siu had scolded him for not posting often and nagged him to be more consistent. Siu had also told him that the members of his band wanted to tag along and visit him in the countryside. Sihon did not know when they intended to come, but he could tell that his peaceful little place was about to get lively.
As he carried on with the recording, he decided to show his audience how the rain sounded in different places. He went into the greenhouse to let them hear how soothing it was when the rain struck the plastic cover. Then he was interrupted by strange noises coming from behind a pile of boxes, and his curiosity was caught. Before he could investigate, his cat leapt out of the corner as if to stop him from seeing whatever was behind them.
One of the boxes toppled over anyway, revealing a wounded cat and her three terrified little kittens. Shortly afterwards Sihon rushed them to a veterinary clinic, where he waited patiently for his turn while comforting the animals. While he waited, he used wild resonance to find out what had happened to the cat and her kittens, exactly as he had with the deer.
From the cat's memories he discovered that the mother had carried her weak kittens all the way down the mountain through the heavy rain, because their shelter had collapsed under the constant downpour. The cat had been drawn to his greenhouse by its rich nature force. After going through her memories, he commended her for protecting her kittens so well.
Just then Sumin, the vet from Jong's cattle shed, stepped out holding a dog and was surprised to see him there. Shortly after, Sihon brought the cats in to him, and Sumin remarked on the coincidence of running into him here. Sihon said he had not known that Sumin owned this clinic, and Sumin pointed out that his clinic was too small to be called an actual clinic.
Sumin asked about the cats, and Sihon explained that he had found them shivering inside his greenhouse and had brought them in for treatment in case they had caught a cold. Sumin examined them and found only a runny nose and some eye discharge, nothing severe. He also mentioned that their fevers were down, so they should be fine even without medication.
Sihon was relieved, but Sumin advised him not to release the cats back outside. He also suggested keeping them there to be vaccinated and neutered later on. Relieved, Sihon thanked him, and Sumin claimed he was only doing his job, after which he asked Sihon for a favour of his own.
