She had stayed down on purpose, instinctively knowing that the longer she took to get help, the less likely her father was to survive.
She turned to Denji and asked whether he thought she was a bad person.
Denji did not flinch. He looked her in the eye and told her the truth about his own father. He had killed him, and staged the scene to look like a suicide. But he promised her that he was also a good person.
As the weight of their shared sins lifted, the two of them burst out into a fit of dark, hysterical laughter.
The laughter died down quickly. Asa looked at Denji and told him that she would return to Yoru and give him a quick opening. He would only have a moment, so he needed to use it to eat her.
Denji freaked out over this, not wanting to take Asa out, but she believed that her fate was already sealed. Even if they survived this, she knew Yoru would never willingly give her body back. She was convinced that even if the Death Devil won and wiped out the rest of humanity, Denji would be fine. He had a devilish-looking face, so he would fit right in with everyone.
Denji stared at her in disbelief, asking what would happen to her.
Asa admitted that she had done a lot of bad things that made her want to scream, and that the crushing weight of her guilt had left her hollow. She simply did not care about her own survival any more. But if she was going to die, she wanted it to mean something. He had saved her, so she would like to die by saving him. She begged Denji to consume all of her.
Back in the waking world, Yoru reformed yet again, screaming at Famine for sullying her holy war and using her own blood to jump-start Pochita's recovery.
Famine did not blink. She snapped back that Yoru was the true weakling, before reaching out and revving Pochita's rip cord herself.
Watching him rise to his feet again, Yoru lowered her hand in a way identical to the Control Devil and prepared to reignite the war.
Before she could do so, Asa momentarily took control of their shared body and turned it back on herself, pointing her own finger at her head.
Hitting the bang, Asa blew away the top half of her own body, and what was left dropped to the floor.
Seizing the opening, Sugo lunged forward and sliced apart the rest of the War Devil's mangled form. With his task achieved, he shouted for Death, and the devil obliged, summoning the Guillotine Devil to mince what remained of Yoru's body into complete nothingness.
Death's allies screamed for Chainsaw Man to finish it, to eat the War Devil and end the threat forever.
But Pochita had other plans in mind. He turned his blades on his own allies instead, decapitating all of them before a single one even realised what had happened.
Doing this bought Yoru just enough time to partially regenerate and fire a devastating shot that blew right through his chest.
Back in the dreamscape, Asa was understandably furious. She scolded Denji for screwing up the plan, but Denji fired back. It was not as if he was the one controlling Pochita in this state.
He remembered how the smartest devil he had ever met had told him not to screw his next choice up. So many people had tried to seduce and persuade him into choosing one way or another. But he finally understood what Pochita had actually meant. Their dream had always just been to live a normal life. Choosing either of the paths currently laid out before him would completely destroy any chance of that.
Denji looked at Asa and made a promise. He would like to invite her into the world that he and Pochita wanted to create.
Asa hesitated, fearing that the devil inside her made it too dangerous.
Denji just smiled. He reminded her that they were the same, and if her devil was going to get in the way, then he and Pochita would just murder it for her.
Back in reality, Yoru managed to reattach Death's head before her powers could trigger.
Slowly coming to, Death thanked Yoru for saving her, but Yoru claimed that she had not done it for her.
Thanking her still, Death admitted that she had not been ready to die, because she still wanted to attend the school festival.
Seeing this as the ultimate weakness, Yoru pounced. She declared that since she had saved her life, Death now belonged to her. She mocked Death for her softness towards humanity, claiming that death was her domain and that enjoying life had made her weak. She was a disgrace, but allowing her to die would not suit. Instead, she planned to morph her into a living weapon until it came time for her final role.
Commanding the death sword to rise, Death began to scream in agony.
The transformation was brutally interrupted by Pochita, who sliced Yoru's arms off and the Death Devil in half in one motion.
