So, in the middle of the night, the two enemies hugged each other tightly and cried like a river.
Waking up the next morning, both of them regretted it so much that they wanted to hide in a hole over their behavior the night before. Seeing each other, they were so awkward that they didn't know where to hide their faces. Luckily, both of them had the same intention, which was to erase the memory entirely.
So they quickly came to an agreement. "Never bring up last night again, and absolutely no touching each other."
Thanks to that, they were able to go back to communicating normally.
On the family side, the younger brother didn't really care much that his sister had depression, and innocently told her to just copy him. "Just don't go to work, and there won't be any trouble."
As a result, the boy got heavily beaten by their mother, right when Ha-neul's mind was already a mess because of her family's over-caring.
Ha-neul's mother snuck in with her medicine, gently telling her to just take it openly. She sincerely apologized for her harsh words the other day, and blamed herself, thinking that maybe her daughter's sickness was because the vibe at home was too boring. From then on, her mother constantly created little surprises, which left Ha-neul both touched and overwhelmed.
Meanwhile, Dong-gu was still having a headache over his lawsuit. The lawyer said that the fingerprints on the medicine bottle alone were not enough to prove that he was innocent. However, there was some good news. The anesthesiologist, Jin-seok, the man who had been in that surgery with him, had agreed to go to court and testify next Tuesday. Kyung-min had always suspected him, but now, seeing that he was willing to help, he breathed a sigh of relief.
Still, Dong-gu wondered about it. Why did he refuse so fiercely before, but change his mind so fast now?
That very night, the stranger showed up in front of Dong-gu's room again, and this time he used a hammer to smash the glass door, just as Ha-neul's younger brother came over to drop off a blanket. He found the door wide open and the glass shattered.
The police arrived at the scene, but nothing had been stolen. They promised to check the cameras and contact them later.
Seeing that Dong-gu's room wasn't safe, Ha-neul's mother warmly invited him to sleep over at their house for the night. Even though he planned to refuse and go stay at a friend's place, Ha-neul threw cold water on him, reminding him that he didn't have any friends left.
And so Dong-gu had to crash at her house. Dinner happened in a vibe that was both cozy and hilarious. Listening to Dong-gu tell stories about how hard Ha-neul used to study back in the day, her mother couldn't hold back her tears again. Luckily, Dong-gu smoothly cracked a few jokes, so the mood turned happy again.
Elsewhere, her friend Hong-ran was worried that Ha-neul might be sad, so she went online to find ways to cheer her up, and accidentally watched one of Dr. Dae-young's videos. At the same time, Dae-young was going crazy with joy at the sight of his account finally getting its fifth follower, not knowing that the owner of that account had just walked right past him.
After dinner, as a thank you, Dong-gu asked Ha-neul out for ice cream. Seeing that Ha-neul's life was far too boring, he decided to take her to do all the things she had missed out on in high school because she was too busy studying.
Despite her initial resistance, Ha-neul got swept up in his enthusiasm. They ate spicy rice cakes together. They went to play arcade games, where Ha-neul unexpectedly turned out to be a pro. Then they went to sing karaoke, where Ha-neul picked a super old song that she had sung a thousand times before, because she had never had the time to keep up with new music.
After that, they even played the dance machine with crazy energy.
After playing all night, Ha-neul's mood was much better, but she still sighed and blamed herself. "I'm this old and I still haven't achieved anything decent. I live like an idiot."
Dong-gu was very warm in that moment. "If you've already fallen, just take a little rest."
Through these close days together, Dong-gu suddenly found this enemy of his to be kind of cute, and Ha-neul also realized that Dong-gu was actually a man who really knew how to care for other people.
But the happiness was short-lived.
The next day, Ha-neul got hit with some shocking news. That awful old professor had only paid her half of her severance pay, using the excuse that she was just a contract worker. Ha-neul went back to the hospital planning to ask her co-workers to fight for justice together, but every one of them turned their back on her, because they were scared of getting involved and scared the old professor would ruin them.
At home, Dong-gu was pacing back and forth, worried that Ha-neul might do something stupid in a fit of anger. His heart was full of conflict.
Right at this moment, the younger brother finally remembered who Dong-gu was. He quickly ran to tell his mother about the medical accident, scared that Ha-neul would get dragged down if she got too close to someone in such huge trouble.
These words accidentally reached Dong-gu's ears. He dropped the idea of giving gifts to her family, quietly turned his back, and walked up to the rooftop, looking terribly lonely.
Ha-neul saw that sad back and immediately ran after him to check on him. Dong-gu just replied bitterly, "I just briefly forgot about my current situation for a second."
Ha-neul went home, and after hearing her mother explain everything, she finally understood the issue. She was going to text him to explain, but then she realized she didn't even have his phone number.
Meanwhile, Dong-gu got more bad news. The anesthesiologist Jin-seok had changed his mind again and refused to testify. He had even quit his job and was preparing to move overseas. Dong-gu fell into despair, knowing nothing to do but drown his sorrows in alcohol.
As for Ha-neul, when she read the news about the case, she felt that this situation was very familiar. After staying up all night searching through documents, she found a similar medical case that had once happened in India, one that could save the situation.
At the trial, Dong-gu's lawyer requested to summon the witness again, while the prosecution firmly demanded a conviction. Right in the middle of the tension, Ha-neul suddenly showed up with a stack of documents in her hand. Even though the judge did not accept them right away, they asked for the documents to be submitted at the next hearing.
Stepping out of the courthouse, Dong-gu was swarmed by reporters. Ha-neul stood at a distance, quietly giving him strength. A stranger suddenly pushed her down, and Dong-gu hurried over to take her away from the scene.
He brought her back to his old clinic, now ruined and full of court summonses, to bandage her wound. Seeing Ha-neul worrying about him, he was incredibly touched.
