To comfort him, Ha-neul suggested that the two of them stay out all night, just like last time. They decided to go watch the sunrise. Even though the sky was gloomy and full of clouds, Dong-gu's mood had gotten better.
He made a suggestion. "Let's not just be classmates anymore. Let's be real friends."
Ha-neul had always been someone with no friends at all, because throughout her school days she had only cared about grades, in order to please her late father. Dong-gu's suggestion made her feel like she finally had someone to share her youth memories with.
Completely exhausted after staying up three days straight finding documents for Dong-gu, Ha-neul fell asleep. When he was about to put his coat over her, she accidentally rested her head on his shoulder, and Dong-gu froze with his heart beating crazy fast.
When they both returned, Ha-neul's family and her friend Hong-ran were worried sick, thinking that she had gotten depressed and done something foolish. Seeing the two of them coming back together, everyone started interrogating them about their relationship. Hong-ran even added one more sentence. "Could it be that Dong-gu is your first love?"
Ha-neul quickly denied it, and asked everyone not to look at him with judging eyes because of the news on the internet. However, Ha-neul's mother was still very worried that he would bring trouble to her daughter, so she asked Hong-ran to find her a blind date.
Hong-ran randomly asked around among the doctors at the hospital, not expecting this information to reach Dae-young's ears. Hearing that the matchmaker's name was Hong-ran, the very same name as the fifth die-hard fan on his channel, Dae-young immediately got excited and agreed to go on the blind date.
Meanwhile, Hong-ran's phrase, "Dong-gu is her first love," kept lingering in Dong-gu's head. He felt there was no way that could possibly be true, but when Ha-neul initiated seeing him again, his feelings started to get mixed up.
Dong-gu started grooming himself and dressing up his looks. Looking at the stack of documents Ha-neul had stayed up three nights to prepare, he deduced to himself, "It must be because she's doing it for her first love that she put so much heart into this."
When Ha-neul awkwardly suggested they go shopping together, Dong-gu got even more smug, thinking she was being shy in front of the crush of her life.
Even though his mouth grumbled, "This is so annoying," he secretly picked out his clothes extremely carefully for the outing. Afraid of being recognized and affecting Ha-neul, he even carefully put on a hat. Seeing that, Ha-neul tried to help him take the hat off. During the struggle she almost fell, but Dong-gu caught her in his arms just in time. That moment left both of them incredibly flustered.
Arriving at the clothing store, Ha-neul asked for his advice, which made Dong-gu get delusional once again. "Ah, turns out my opinion is that important to her."
When he saw Ha-neul step out of the fitting room, he was stunned, because she was so pretty. But he still tried to act cool. "It's all right. Nice clothes."
Seeing Dong-gu looking a bit shy, Ha-neul remembered something from the past. Back then, she had climbed onto a desk to fix a rattling ceiling fan, and she slipped. Dong-gu was quick enough to catch her. It was supposed to be a romantic hero-saves-the-beauty moment, but facing their friends teasing them that they should date, Dong-gu got so embarrassed that he just let go, dropping Ha-neul flat on the ground. Their friends even suspected he had purposely eliminated his great competitor.
To make up for it, he later helped her copy notes, recorded lectures for her, and even carried her backpack. That one small act had made Ha-neul believe that Dong-gu was basically a good person at heart, and would never do anything bad.
Back to the present. Seeing Ha-neul suddenly acting shy and saying she had something to tell him, Dong-gu got so nervous his hands and feet were shaking, totally convinced she was about to confess her feelings.
And who would have thought? Ha-neul announced that she was going on a blind date.
At this point Dong-gu was totally floored, realizing that all this time he had just been delusional. He went home and comforted himself. "That's fine too. Being her first love would be way too much pressure anyway."
But his actions were full of jealousy.
The next day, seeing Ha-neul happily heading out for her date, Dong-gu felt terribly restless inside.
And Ha-neul's blind date was also a total mess. Dae-young mistakenly thought she was Hong-ran, so he just kept rambling on and on about his channel, leaving her totally clueless and confused. The climax came when Dae-young's daughter suddenly showed up, throwing a fit because her dad was secretly dating.
After clearing everything up, the two of them finally realized that this was a disastrous mix-up. Ha-neul was annoyed because she had wasted all that effort doing her makeup. She planned to go eat barbecue to cheer herself up with Hong-ran, but her friend suddenly got busy and had to leave right away.
On her way home, Ha-neul ran into Dong-gu again. At first he pretended to play it cool, but the moment he heard the blind date had failed, he immediately smiled brightly and chased after her to gossip about every last detail.
Meanwhile, at home, two aunts from Busan had come to visit. As soon as they heard that Ha-neul had quit her job, the two women started acting high and mighty, lecturing her and blaming her for not knowing how to treat people. Hearing people badmouth her daughter, Ha-neul's mother ground her teeth in anger. Seeing them making sarcastic remarks about her daughter not having a boyfriend yet, the mother boldly lied that she was out on a date at that very moment.
Unexpectedly, right at that moment, the two aunts spotted Ha-neul and Dong-gu walking together outside the door. They immediately rushed out, dragged Dong-gu into the house, and interrogated him about when the two of them were getting married. Even though Ha-neul explained that they were just friends, the two aunts would not stop mocking and being sarcastic to her mother.
When they found out Dong-gu was a plastic surgeon, the two women shamelessly asked him to consult on what they needed to fix on their faces.
To get revenge for Ha-neul and her mother, Dong-gu used his professional knowledge to roast the two aunts' looks mercilessly, which made her mother feel enormously satisfied.
Feeling humiliated, the two aunts brought up Ha-neul getting fired in order to mock her again, and the atmosphere turned tense. Feeling like her life was just too unlucky, Ha-neul asked Dong-gu out for drinks again.
After a few rounds of shots, the two of them started competing to see who was more miserable, and the result was that both got so drunk they didn't know what was what anymore. Even the pouring rain couldn't stop the two of them from drinking.
In her drunk state, Ha-neul accidentally rested her head on Dong-gu's shoulder. Looking at the girl in front of him, Dong-gu felt his heart skip a beat. He had really caught feelings for her.
Waking up the next morning, Ha-neul got a shocking notification. Last night, while drunk, she had accidentally submitted her resume to a hospital way out in Jangseongbuk-do, a place in the middle of nowhere. And the crazy part was that they had actually called her in for an interview.
Ha-neul was terribly torn. She felt like she was losing her pride, not being able to find a job in Seoul. Dong-gu was there to encourage her. "Actually, when people ask for someone else's opinion, they've already made a decision in their hearts."
He believed she would do great, and supported her going.
But then disaster struck again.
