Chapter 4A Noise in the Basement

One day, the project Chiwan and his team had been working on got scrapped by his rival, Director Du. Team morale hit rock bottom. Everyone was waiting for Chiwan to say something to comfort the co-workers who had worked so hard. But Chiwan felt he didn't fit in at social gatherings. He handed Yuni a corporate card, telling them to eat and drink whatever they wanted, but he wouldn't be joining.

At first, Yuni didn't want to push him. But Director Du suddenly called her, demanding she find a way to get Chiwan to show up at the team dinner that night. Before Yuni could even say no, Director Du hung up.

Director Du's threats were still ringing in her ears. Yuni racked her brain and suddenly came up with an idea. She offered a ten percent rent discount on the condition that Chiwan would attend the dinner for one hour. Chiwan, a guy who counted every penny, happily agreed when he heard about the rent discount.

However, Director Du's plan didn't go as he had hoped. Director Du had originally wanted to use his victory to humiliate Chiwan at the party. He purposely provoked Yuni, Chiwan's secretary, by making her pour drinks for him. Being a secretary, Yuni had no problem with this. But Chiwan couldn't stand seeing her humble herself. He grabbed her hand and dragged her straight out, giving zero respect to Director Du.

The two of them went off to grab a drink. Chiwan didn't understand why Yuni wasn't angry at all when Director Du had clearly disrespected her at the dinner table, and thought she had no self-esteem. Yuni fired back, saying that since Chiwan, her own boss, had never treated her nicely, how could she expect good treatment from anyone else?

Chiwan was a bit touched, and started to become less resistant to Yuni getting close to him. When he heard her say she wanted to learn every little detail about him, he thought it was unnecessary. But Yuni strongly believed this was the key to doing her job smoothly.

They kept talking, and before she knew it, Yuni got drunk. When she woke up, she found herself lying on Chiwan's lap. Embarrassed, she didn't know what to do for a second, so she just pretended to be passed out, hoping to fool him. Little did she know, while she was acting drunk with all her might, Chiwan had already seen right through her trick. He told her to go home right away while she was still somewhat sober. Yuni couldn't pretend anymore, and ran home in a panic.

The next day, a secretaries' meeting was held. The head secretary was super interested when she heard that Yuni was the secretary for Director Nam, a guy who had never had a secretary before. She demanded that Yuni must collect all of Chiwan's personal preferences.

Yuni felt helpless. She knew asking Chiwan would get her nowhere, so she had to figure it out herself. She secretly dug through Chiwan's trash can, hoping to piece together some of his likes and dislikes. To her surprise, while she was rummaging through it, Chiwan happened to come back from outside. Seeing Yuni acting so shady, he had no idea what she was up to. Panicked, Yuni quickly ran away.

Chiwan was like a brick wall; Yuni couldn't break through at all. One day, she planned to wait until he got off work and left, then sneak into his office to look for clues. But Chiwan suddenly popped up and handed Yuni a folder. Before she could even figure out what the folder was, she saw Chiwan awkwardly walking away. It turned out the document listed all of his little habits and preferences. Yuni smiled, feeling super grateful.

After hanging out for a few days, Chiwan didn't reject having a secretary like he used to. One day, Director Huang invited him out for a meal. During the dinner, Director Huang expressed his admiration for Yuni and insisted on having a drinking contest with Chiwan. The winner would get to be Yuni's boss.

Chiwan righteously warned Director Huang that who Yuni works with is entirely her own choice, and they couldn't treat her like a betting prize. However, the very next second, afraid of losing Yuni, he actually drank himself under the table with Director Huang.

Director Huang hurriedly called Yuni to come take Chiwan home. A completely wasted Chiwan unknowingly rested his head on Yuni's shoulder. The close contact made Yuni blush instantly.

But before her racing heart could even calm down, right after she got Chiwan back to his room, Yuni suddenly heard a weird noise coming from the basement. Scared out of her mind, she rushed to find Chiwan. But he was passed out drunk and completely unresponsive. She had to gather her courage and go down to the basement to check it out alone.

The dim lights made Yuni terrified with every step she took. Right then, Chiwan suddenly appeared from behind. He spotted someone curled up in the basement. While chasing the stranger, he managed to rip off a handful of their hair. Sadly, the stranger still got away.

Even though Yuni quickly called the cops, the police were used to this kind of thing. They just brushed it off, saying it was probably a nearby homeless person, and told them to just install security cameras. But the cameras wouldn't be installed until the next morning. The thought of the stranger coming back to the basement in the middle of the night freaked Yuni out.

She followed Chiwan, wanting to crash in his room for the night. Chiwan shot her down immediately. Terrified, Yuni could only squat outside his door, hugging a cardboard box to barely keep warm.

Chiwan tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep. Knowing full well that Yuni was squatting outside, he felt bad for her. After thinking it over a bunch of times, he finally let her in. He made a deal that she could only stay in the room until five in the morning.

Yuni was thrilled, but since she couldn't sleep, she read Chiwan's comic books and couldn't help but laugh out loud. Her giggling kept Chiwan awake too, so he got up to do some work. Yuni sharply noticed that his arm was injured from grabbing the stranger earlier. She helped patch up his wound. Her gentle care left him feeling a bit flustered. While reading his book, his eyes kept drifting over to the adorable Yuni.
