Just then, Yuni ran into the house. Seeing the two men wrestling on the floor, she rushed over to check what was going on. Seeing Yuni, the young guy looked pitiful and called out, "Sis." That was when Chiwan finally realized the guy was Yuni's little brother, Hi Yi.
The next day, Chiwan took Yuni to a meeting at the corporate headquarters. Looking around the place where she used to work, Yuni felt a wave of nostalgia. However, whatever you want to avoid always ends up happening.
While waiting for the elevator, Yuni ran into her ex-boss. Her ex-boss mocked her, scolding her for being disloyal. He claimed he had promised to bring her back after some time, yet she couldn't even wait a few days before running off to work for someone else. Her ex-boss told Yuni to meet him on the rooftop to talk.
To her surprise, he just straight up started chewing her out. Yuni didn't back down. She told him that if he had any conscience at all, he should be apologizing to her.
It turned out Yuni had known for a while that the person who spread the nasty rumors about them having an affair was actually the ex-boss himself. And his reason for ruining her reputation was pretty simple. He was up for a promotion, so a secretary like Yuni, who knew way too many of his dirty secrets, naturally became the perfect scapegoat.
Seeing his cover blown, the ex-boss still refused to admit it. He kept trash talking, claiming Yuni had only worked her butt off for him for three years without asking for anything in return because she had a crush on him. Yuni couldn't stand listening to his garbage anymore and seriously demanded an apology. Relying on his high rank, the ex-boss didn't take her seriously at all.
Little did they know, their entire conversation was overheard by Chiwan, who was hiding nearby. Chiwan calmly followed the ex-boss into the elevator, hit the stop button, and punched him right in the face. He then warned the guy that he would teach him a lesson at the upcoming secretary competition.
Yuni was feeling pretty down, but seeing Chiwan still waiting for her made her feel a little better, and she cracked a happy smile. Chiwan took her out for some hangover noodles. As soon as they got back to the office, he personally submitted the application for the secretary competition.
Chiwan was a guy who never cared about office politics, so him joining the competition left everyone totally shocked. Yuni, on the other hand, was over the moon about it.
When Director Du heard the news, he ordered Yuni to dig up all of Chiwan's weaknesses before the secretary competition. Yuni felt totally stuck. Meanwhile, Director Du didn't fully trust her, so he sent someone to secretly spy on Yuni and Chiwan's every move.
One day, the water heater at Yuni's house broke down, because it hadn't been fixed in years. Yuni complained that the house was too old to sell, especially since someone had died in a fire there before, making it impossible to get a good price. As soon as she said that, Yuni realized she had messed up and quickly explained that the house wasn't haunted. But surprisingly, Chiwan didn't care about that at all.
Yuni wanted to call a repairman to fix it as soon as possible. But the repairman used Christmas as an excuse and refused to work overtime. Chiwan planned to stay at a hotel for the night, but to his surprise, every single room was fully booked. Left with no other option, Yuni had to pitch a tent in the living room so Chiwan could crash there for the night.
However, the second she finished setting up the tent, Hi Yi came over to hang out. Panicking, Yuni quickly shoved Chiwan inside the tent and tried to handle her brother herself. But Hi Yi was too sharp. He instantly noticed that someone else was in the tent. Getting caught hiding under the blankets by Hi Yi made Chiwan feel super embarrassed.
Yuni strictly warned Hi Yi to keep his mouth shut and not tell their mom. But the second he turned around, Hi Yi spilled all his sister's secrets to their mom.
Her mom initially thought Yuni had finally gotten a boyfriend. But when she heard the guy was the divorced man living on the second floor, she felt something was totally off. She angrily marched over to confront Chiwan. That was when she shockingly found out that Chiwan used to live in Yuni's house, and that his uncle had died there in a massive fire.
Hearing that her mom had gone to see Chiwan, Yuni rushed over as fast as she could. Her mom demanded that Yuni kick Chiwan out, unless Yuni agreed to go on a blind date. Little did Yuni know, Chiwan had just confessed to her mom that he simply saw Yuni as someone he really wanted to trust.
Before long, the secretary competition kicked off. Everyone brought their A game. When it was Yuni's turn to give her presentation on her boss, a video of the fatal car crash involving Chiwan and his family from years ago suddenly started playing on the screen.
Chiwan froze in his tracks as all the horrific memories from his past came rushing back. Yuni panicked and desperately tried to explain that she didn't do it. Right at that moment, the stage crew set off the stage fireworks. The shock was too much for Chiwan, and he passed out on the spot.
He was dragged back to the loneliness and helplessness of his childhood. People used to say he should have died in that crash, calling him a curse who brought death to his parents and older sister. His kind uncle had taken him in, but he too had died trying to save Chiwan from the fire. These painful traumas had always been an untouchable dark corner in Chiwan's heart.
Yuni stayed quietly by his side. Seeing tears streaming down his face, even while he was passed out, broke her heart completely. Yuni stepped out for a moment, but when she came back, Chiwan was gone. She panicked and searched everywhere, but there was no sign of him. Just then, the vice president told Yuni where Chiwan had gone, and explained the whole backstory behind his deep trauma.
Worried sick about him, Yuni rushed over to find him. Seeing him looking so weak and broken, she couldn't hold back her tears anymore. Chiwan wasn't in the mood to deal with her. Even though Yuni desperately tried to explain that she had nothing to do with the video, he warned her to get out of his life forever.
It turned out that while he was out cold, Chiwan had gotten a text from Director Du. The text included a voice recording of Yuni swearing to be Director Du's spy. What he didn't know, however, was that ever since Yuni started opening up to Chiwan, she had flat out refused to keep spying for Director Du, even if it meant risking her job.
Feeling completely crushed, Yuni sat in her car and bawled her eyes out.
