Chapter 7His Jacket in the Cold

The next day, refusing to give up, Yuni tried to investigate whether her presentation USB drive had been swapped out, but she hit a dead end. She figured Chiwan was still mad at her, so she kept carefully reading his face, terrified that he hated her now.

After the top executives' morning meeting, all the secretaries were gossiping. They were amazed that Chiwan could still show up to work so calmly after his tragic childhood trauma got exposed, saying he had an insanely strong mindset. Some even agreed with the rumor that Chiwan was a curse who brought bad luck to those around him.

The more Yuni heard, the madder she got. She told the other secretaries to back off and stop gossiping behind his back. One thing led to another, and the secretaries ended up getting into a full-blown physical fight.

Meanwhile, Chiwan confronted Director Du privately, warning him to keep Yuni out of their power struggle, or else he would strike back hard. Director Du was a petty guy and knew exactly how Chiwan would retaliate. With the vice president retiring soon, that open spot was exactly what he had always dreamed of. At a crucial time like this, he absolutely refused to lose the upper hand. He even schemed to use his own secretary as a spy to dig up some hidden secrets between Yuni and Chiwan.

That evening, Chiwan had a business dinner with some clients and asked two guys from the department to tag along. But when the guys suddenly called in sick, Yuni had to step up and go to the dinner instead. When Chiwan arrived, he saw Yuni pouring drinks for the clients, and his face instantly darkened. He rushed the clients to sign the contract, then threw all business etiquette out the window and dragged Yuni out of there.

Chiwan couldn't help but scold Yuni for showing up to the dinner without even telling him. But Yuni figured that as long as they got the contract signed and got a good result, the process didn't really matter. Seeing how Yuni always put him first, Chiwan's heart softened. Noticing that she was dressed too lightly for the cold, he took off his jacket, wrapped it tightly around her, and headed back to the office.

Yuni snuggled into the jacket, which still smelled like Chiwan and carried his body heat. When she found the ointment he had thoughtfully bought for her scratch, she felt a wave of warmth inside and couldn't stop herself from smiling.

But before Yuni could even enjoy the moment, Chiwan, who had just realized his feelings for her, told her to start looking for a new tenant, saying it wasn't a good idea for him to live there anymore.

Feeling totally crushed and heartbroken, Yuni went out drinking with her friends to drown her sorrows. Using liquid courage, she called Chiwan and begged him not to move out. Chiwan didn't reply. Yuni ended up catching a bad cold from waiting for him out in the freezing weather, so she called in sick to work.

The next day, looking at the empty secretary desk, Chiwan felt a bit weird and out of place. When he heard Chang Su excitedly talking about visiting Yuni, he purposely bumped into him, cutting off Chang Su's phone call with her. It turned out Yuni had left her phone with Chiwan the night before, right when Chang Su was calling her non-stop, begging to get back together. Hearing that Yuni had dated Chang Su for five years made Chiwan insanely jealous, without him even realizing it.

Right then, Hi Yi came looking for Chiwan, hoping to score a job. He also happily snitched on Yuni's whereabouts, telling Chiwan that their mom was forcing Yuni to go on a blind date, even though she was running a high fever.

Chiwan sat in his office fuming. After overthinking it, he couldn't hold back his frustration anymore. He jumped up, raced over to Yuni's blind date, and dragged her out of there without saying a single word. Before Yuni could even process what was happening, Chiwan smashed his lips onto hers.

However, right after that passionate kiss, things got super awkward between them. Chiwan felt like an idiot, regretting that he had kissed Yuni so impulsively. Meanwhile, Yuni was stressing out about how to face him tomorrow, and kept banging her head against the wall in despair.

Early the next morning, both Chiwan and Yuni woke up extra early to get ready, both terrified of bumping into each other. But of course, the second they stepped out the door, they ran right into each other. They both panicked, made up a lame excuse about forgetting their phones, and ducked back inside their houses.

At work, Yuni waited until Chiwan wasn't in the office to quickly clean his desk like a total ninja, terrified he might walk in on her. During a meeting, it became pretty clear that Yuni had passed her cold to Chiwan through that kiss. The two of them kept sneezing non-stop throughout the meeting, and their co-workers started joking and guessing that the two of them must have kissed. Of course, the co-workers didn't actually believe Chiwan and Yuni had kissed. They just joked that Yuni must have been so sick of Chiwan being strict that she spit in his coffee.

Chiwan figured that dodging each other like this wasn't going to work, so he wanted to talk to Yuni. But dating your boss is the ultimate taboo for a secretary. Yuni just claimed she had been so sick she wasn't thinking straight, and hoped they could both pretend the kiss never even happened. Chiwan was a bit annoyed that Yuni was dodging responsibility, but he didn't want to push her too hard, so he was left to sulk all by himself.

Back at work, it seemed like nothing had happened between the two. But inside, they were full of butterflies.

That day, Yuni suddenly found out that Chiwan's ex-wife, Duhi, was the vice president's daughter, and she instantly felt insecure. She kept thinking a guy with such high standards like Chiwan would never actually like her, so that kiss felt meaningless.

At the end of the year, Yuni prepped thoughtful gifts for the staff on Chiwan's behalf. Chiwan got warm thank-yous from his co-workers. He knew Yuni was helping him keep up his social ties.

When the holidays came, Yuni planned to go watch the sunrise with her family. Chiwan, who didn't have many friends, planned to just stay home. Feeling a bit shy, he gave Yuni a gift. Yuni was rushing out and hit the road with her family before she could even read the note. When she finally opened it and saw that Chiwan had written to thank her for being by his side, her heart felt incredibly warm.

Yuni got out of the car and ran back to Chiwan. By then, it was pouring rain. Chiwan held an umbrella, looking at Yuni with an understanding gaze. They hugged in the rain, confirming their feelings for each other. Chiwan gently dried Yuni's hair, totally sweeping her off her feet with his charm.

However, Chiwan's brutally blunt personality always ruined the romantic mood at the worst possible times. When the New Year's bell rang, he congratulated Yuni on turning thirty.

Yuni complained that Chiwan wasn't making any real moves, but he immediately pulled her into his arms. The two spent a cozy night together.

The next day, the two of them, now having cute nicknames for each other, went to work together. The vibe was super sweet. In the elevator, Chiwan couldn't help but touch Yuni's face. When their co-workers stepped into the elevator, the two instantly jumped apart like they had gotten electrocuted. During a schedule briefing, Chiwan looked at how cute Yuni was and couldn't resist pinching her nose. Yuni felt super shy and quickly looked at Chiwan walking away, wanting to make sure he snuck out smoothly.

She had no idea that her little actions were all seen by her best friend, Bona.
