Then a single drop landed on his face. Plink.
Lin Fang looked up, confused. What's this? Not a single cloud in the sky, but it's raining?
Just then a horrific scream echoed from above as a figure plummeted to the ground right in front of him. Lin Fang stumbled back in pure horror, his mind racing. What is going on? Did the city walls fall? Are the demons attacking?
The man lay dying in a pool of blood, struggling to get up. With his last breath he screamed a world-shattering warning. "The successor to the necromancer class, He Sha, has betrayed us. He's giving the class legacy to the demon clan—"
Before he could even finish screaming for someone to sound an alarm, a massive wave of dark magic crashed down, consuming him entirely.
Witnessing the absolutely horrific sight, Lin Fang was frozen in shock. No way. No way. It can't be. What is happening? Giving a class legacy to the demon clan. Is that even possible?
A demonic, mocking voice suddenly echoed from the shadows as a dark monster materialised. "Fool. You saw that and didn't run? Eager to die?"
He Sha the traitor appeared, clearly wounded. If I wasn't injured by that forbidden magic, he thought, I would already be out of this city. Once I hand this legacy to the demons, I'll get an immortal body. But he held me up for too long. The academy must be on to me.
He Sha glanced in one direction, his eyes filled with caution.
Lin Fang instantly sized up the situation. He had just stumbled onto a murder. He had to escape while the killer was distracted. But just as he turned, an ice-cold voice stopped him dead in his tracks.
"Did I say you could leave?"
He Sha appeared beside him, grabbing Lin Fang's collar and lifting him clean off the ground. "That man was the famous Yu Ya, dean of the Extraordinary Academy. A tragic death. Perhaps I'll use your blood and bones to mourn him."
Lin Fang was terrified. He could feel the overwhelming magic power radiating from this man. This psycho's magic was on another level. There was absolutely no way he could escape his grip. In pure desperation, he forced himself to think. Calm down. Think. Is there anything I can use to get him off me?
Then a window popped into his head. Max-level farming tool mastery. New skill unlocked: Summon Farming Tool.
A hoe appeared in his hand. Lin Fang gritted his teeth, pouring all his strength into an attack. "Mourn him? I'll handle that myself."
Lin Fang swung the hoe, ramming it straight into He Sha as he roared for him to rot in hell. Caught completely off guard, He Sha was thrown back, screaming in pure disbelief. "How? This kid was just a farmer. How could he possibly have wounded me?"
Suddenly Lin Fang's eyes darted to an object dropped by the dean, Yu Ya. That's it. He snatched it up and activated it, unleashing a colossal pillar of light straight at He Sha. The dark mage countered, firing off a blast of dark magic to defend himself. The two energies collided, creating a terrifying explosion.
He Sha was wounded but still standing. After the blast, Lin Fang realised he was caught in a strange magic circle. Damn it. Another marking spell from a demonic rune warrior.
Though injured, He Sha flashed a sinister grin as he lunged. "If that's how it is, I'll just take your body and leave."
A powerful dark energy slammed into Lin Fang, trying to possess his very soul. Lin Fang felt his consciousness being crushed, only able to let out choked gurgles as He Sha's soul forced its way inside.
Inside his own mindscape, He Sha's soul began to relentlessly mock him. "Even for the lowest class, your talent isn't half bad. Consider yourself lucky. You get to become my new vessel."
But Lin Fang's soul refused to give up, managing to flash a defiant smirk. "Is that right? I've trained my whole life without a single day off. Stealing my body might be harder than you think."
He Sha was completely dismissive. "So what? Low class is low class. My power is on a level you could never hope to reach."
Completely overwhelmed, Lin Fang's consciousness began to fade into the abyss. Looks like my luck finally ran out, he thought despairingly. But even in his final moments his hand desperately reached for Dean Yu Ya's weapon.
Grasping the weapon, Lin Fang used every last ounce of strength to point it at himself, his eyes burning with resolve. "Then let's both go down together in a blaze of glory."
The insane act absolutely terrified He Sha. "Wait a minute. What are you doing?"
Lin Fang gritted his teeth and without hesitation plunged the weapon deep into his own chest. "I'll die before I ever give you my body."
As his consciousness shattered, his last thought was, Dad, I really don't want you to have to scold me for this.
Lin Fang collapsed, his body motionless as dark energy seeped from the fatal wound. Then suddenly a brilliant golden light erupted from deep within it.
He Sha, still inside Lin Fang's body, was completely stunned by the sudden flash. "What is this blinding light? Is the kid's magic power exploding?"
The light grew fiercely bright, emitting powerful golden rays. Chains of pure light appeared from nowhere, binding He Sha's soul tightly as he screamed in absolute terror. "How can this be? This is impossible. It's impossible!"
He Sha's soul was trapped by the chains of light. And then, boom — his soul shattered into a million pieces.
In the darkness, a notification window appeared. Congratulations. You have received a new talent: the inherited class, Necromancer.
Lin Fang's eyes snapped open, seeing his own reflection. And he was still alive.
"I'm still alive." He blankly checked himself over. "I can still control my own body."
The possessor had failed.
