Chapter 13Half the Industry Auditions

Later Ji Yansi looked at her very seriously and asked her that, if Star Entertainment was going to be impossible, which other entertainment company she would like to go to. Luckily, he said, he had Shen Hu looking after Yuanchen Entertainment, and whenever she wanted to go there he could arrange it in minutes.

Su Fu asked the president whether he had any recommendations.

He told her that in his opinion Yuanchen Entertainment was good.

She thought about it and told him no; that company was not a good option.

The president stopped typing and wondered whether she thought his company was a bad one. Shen must have been slacking, he thought, when he told him every day how good the performance was; and now she wasn't even interested in it. He really would have to say something.

Then Su Fu read a message from Manman. Manman told Sister Fu that the resource search that day had been incredible, and that it turned out she met the director's requirements.

Su Fu said that it did look like a good resource. But she didn't want to take on any of those scripts. She wanted to expand the range of what she could play, and those scripts were exactly the same as her previous roles, so that wasn't going to work.

And the reason she had not chosen her husband's company was that the services there were very good — if she made her comeback in that company, she was sure that some netizens would say she was using the back door to get her popularity back. It was better for a once-brilliant A-list artist to sign with a small company than to make a comeback through the back door and unspoken rules.

Her husband told her that they had sent her a great many auditions, and asked why none of them had caught her attention.

Su Fu said that those scripts did not suit her, and asked him to look at them again.

Ji Yansi said that those were Yuanchen's scripts, which Shen had arranged and handed to him personally, and remarked that apparently Shen should be fired.

Then her phone rang. A girl told Miss Fu that she had already arranged for her to audition for Director Wan's film the next day, and that she also had news that almost half of the actresses in the entertainment industry would be auditioning the next day as well.

Su Fu said that it sounded as though the audition was going to be very interesting.

The next morning Su Fu stretched in bed and reminded herself that this was the day she was going to audition for Director Wan, and that she had to act at her very best and make it look inevitable.

Her husband put his arms round her, said good morning, and told her that her performance the night before had been pretty good.

Su Fu looked quite scandalised. She pushed him away, blushing hard, and told him that she had to go, and that she did not want to be called disrespectful for arriving late, because a lot of people were going to show up to audition for that film.

A few minutes later, in his bedroom, Ji Yansi dialled a number and made a call.

Somewhere else a phone rang, and a young man lying in bed picked it up and asked what was happening.

The president asked him whether he had also asked other companies to compete.

Shen Hu asked Ji Yansi how he could possibly be so powerful. He told him that it was nothing to do with his influence — why was it, then, that more than half the female artists at Yuanchen were competing for this film? They thought it was going to be a good movie, and everybody wanted to follow in their footsteps.

But the president told Shen to tell his artists to protect her.

The girl who was with him asked the master whether his performance that night had been good. He threw back the sheets, pressed a cheque into her hand and told her to leave. The girl looked a little worried, because that man was very temperamental.

A little further on Shen stood in front of his window and said that this could be interesting.

At the entrance to the studio a vehicle pulled up, and out of it came Su Fu and her work team.

Manman told Sister Fu that she was going to buy breakfast for everybody. Her sister thanked her and told her that she was fine.

The girl with the pink hair asked Sister Fu whether Little Genius would really sign a contract with them, and Su Fu told her that of course she wouldn't — because the moment Director Wan signed with Su Li, the momentum of that film would go straight down the drain, and she was not going to let her little genius be somebody else's sales machine.

The girl with the pink hair carried Little Genius in, and the people standing there were already amazed as the baby arrived. They exclaimed to God, because she was so very pretty. Another girl wondered whether that wasn't Su Fu, and whether she hadn't retired six years ago. Another said that she was so proud of her little sister and so jealous of her. But another said that she didn't seem the same as she used to be — because the Su Fu of the past had been like a calm magnolia flower, with an outstandingly kind and gentle temperament, and looking at her now, she was like a rose with thorns, and every movement she made gave off a particular charm.

Then Su Li arrived, telling her older sister that she had thought she wouldn't come.

Su Fu asked why she shouldn't come, when her sister was coming with acting skills like that.

Su Li asked Su Fu whether she dared to tell everyone who the little genius's father was.

Su Fu asked her what that had to do with her, and turned to walk away.

But Su Li shouted at her older sister not to leave, and to let everybody know what her true attitude had been six years ago.

Su Fu bit her lip. Then she slapped her.

One of the girls who had been commenting a moment ago said that this was the first time she had ever seen Su Fu behave so aggressively, and wondered whether all that kindness in the past had simply been fake.

Su Li told her older sister that even if she slapped her, it wouldn't change the fact that Lulu, her little genius, was an illegitimate daughter.

And then somebody pushed her, and Su Li went down.

Su Fu noted that the woman was from Yuanchen Entertainment, and did not look like an unknown; and that she had obviously done it on purpose. Apparently Su Li's popularity was quite bad.

Then Su Fu told Su Li that the audition was about to begin, and that her little sister would do better to worry about whether she could pass it.

The girls went on commenting. One said that this was a lot of information. Another said that so, after all this talking, the talented child star Lulu was Su Fu's daughter — and wondered when Su Fu had got married and had a daughter.
