The next day, in the villa, Su Fu opened her eyes and found a tremendous beauty in front of her face.
"Ji Yansi? Is that you?"
He smiled and said that of course it was him, and asked who else she had been hoping he would be.
She said she simply had not expected that the man who married her six years ago would turn out to be him. Then she said that wasn't what she meant. And she was sorry, because she hadn't meant last night either; she was not a casual woman, and she hoped he would understand that.
She looked away. It was all the fault of those brats, she thought. Because of Su An and Su Lian she wanted to find a crack in the ground and bury herself in it.
He came closer and asked her whether she wanted to lift her skirt and then deny it. Su Fu felt like scum. And yet, in a strange way, she turned her face aside and blushed a very deep red, and told him that six years ago the two of them had only got married by agreement, and if it was a problem for him then they could get divorced.
She said that if he used that certificate as a way to force a relationship on her, then he would be no different from a woman like Su Li. There was no basis for a relationship between them, so it made no sense for them to continue together. It was just an agreement. She was not going to use it as a moral kidnapping to stop him from finding true love.
Ji Yansi took hold of her face and brought himself quite close and asked Su Fu why she wanted to distance herself from him. Many women dreamed of being his wife, he said; she was the only one who could make him take responsibility through a child; and she was the one who wanted to keep the relationship separate. He wondered whether it could be that in her heart he simply wasn't good enough.
Su Fu told him that she was only afraid, so he shouldn't get her wrong.
He brushed her lip with his thumb, closer now than before, and asked her what the misunderstanding could possibly be, if what he wanted was her body.
She blushed furiously and wondered why this man had to be so direct.
There was a knock at the door, and a voice told him that the children were here.
"What children?" Su Fu said.
The children were in the dining room with their Uncle Gan Luo. When their mother made her entrance she was immediately embraced by all of them, and the little beauty told the big beauty that she was finally awake.
Su Fu was still a little angry about those brats.
The little detective told his mom that she had to thank him, because she would never have found his dad so quickly if it weren't for him. The little doctor said that in fact she should thank him, because he was the one who had provided the means.
The genius, possessed by a role from some play, announced that she was really very shy, and that she liked it, but that she had to remain reserved, and wondered what on earth she should do.
Su Fu was thoroughly embarrassed. She went over to the brats and, still a little angry, asked them whether they didn't have something else to fix.
The little detective told his mom that she couldn't get herself a dad out of them and then sell herself so high, because he knew that deep down she was grateful to them.
The little doctor, seeing how angry she was, asked whether there was something wrong with his dad.
His mother whacked them both and walked out.
She went to her little beauty, while Gan Luo said that there were many rich and powerful families in this world, and that although the road ahead would not be easy, he hoped that Su Fu would always be safe and happy.
Later, in Ji Yansi's villa, the little painter was making a portrait of the man he had seen the night before.
Su Fu came in, very elegantly dressed, and said that she would be going to Star Entertainment in a little while, because she needed to look for Su Li.
The little detective said that, judging by his mom's expression, she must be looking for somebody to settle a score with.
His mother whacked him again and told the brat that he knew too much. Then she stroked his head a little.
And then she saw the painting her little painter was making.
"Su Ji — where did you see this man?"
The boy told her that he had seen him the night before, when the driver came to pick them up.
Su Fu said that the man in that painting was Manman's brute of a brother.
The little painter told his mom not to be afraid, because they would protect her.
But why, Su Fu thought, had that man gone to where she lived? It seemed that Su Li already knew she had come back to this city. A memory brushed past her, and she thought how ridiculous it was to even consider it — she had never fought for anything, and still they had considered her a thorn in their side. But she was not who she used to be.
Her phone rang and she took the call.
"Hello?" a woman's voice said. "Su Fu, where are you? Come back here quickly."
"Mrs. Li, what's wrong? Has something happened?"
The landlady told her that the rented house was full of chicken blood, and so was the door, and that the neighbours had come to complain to her; and that if she couldn't live there any more, she should move out sooner rather than later.
Su Fu took a breath and told her that all right, she would go over there.
Then she asked her little painter whether he could give that portrait to his mom, and Su Ji smilingly said yes.
She was sure that it was Su Li who had ordered somebody to do the dirty work.
While she stood holding the painting, Ji Yansi looked at her and asked her what was happening.
"Nothing," Su Fu said. "Only that the landlady asked me to come back."
This was a personal dispute between her and Su Li, and she could not involve him in it.
Gan Luo asked what the problem was, and whether something had happened, but Ji Yansi told him it was nothing; he and Su Fu were going out for a while. He asked the butler to take good care of the children. Gan Luo remarked that a heartless machine like that was now arranging company for children, and wondered whether that meant it was confirmed.
Someone was driving, and it was Su Fu's husband. She said that she could actually have gone alone, because he still had business to attend to.
Then the little detective popped up behind them and told his mommy to give his daddy a chance to help. The little programmer added that it was nine o'clock, and at his dad's speed they should be able to reach the villa again by ten.
"What are you two doing in this car?" Su Fu asked.
They told their mom that she only had her daddy in her eyes, so of course she hadn't noticed them.
That made her blush, and her husband smiled.
